chapter 9

narrator's pov:

Tessa was gasping for air as she hid in the pantry room, trying her best to keep her breathing quiet. She couldn't believe her luck, Killian still hadn't found her yet.

"Haha," she giggled softly, but then quickly covered her mouth, afraid that she might have given herself away. She searched the room, trying to think of a way to escape. And then she remembered something – the door.

Flashback to 5 years ago.

"Dad, the door! The door!" Tessa squealed in excitement as her father read her a new storybook.

The book had pretty pictures with bright colours and cute animals. Her dad always told her to believe in herself, that she was powerful, beautiful, and enough. Every night, he would come to her and read her a story. But the one story that Tessa remembered most was about a princess, like always, a needy princess who needed a prince charming to save her from evil human beings who just needed some love and therapy.

The story was about a pretty blonde princess with big blue  eyes and porcelain skin. Tessa always thought that she was the most beautiful woman in the world, and she used to dream of meeting her. But as she grew older, she realized that there was no such thing as a princess, unless you counted Meghan, who was technically a princess. But was she a queen? I don't know.

As she heard Killian getting closer, Tessa realized that she had to act fast. She remembered the secret door that she had created and designed herself. It was hidden behind a shelf, which wasn't really a shelf, but a functioning shelf. All she had to do was slide a piece of wood that was on the shelf, like a piece of art, and then put it under the shelf and pull down the lever. This would reveal a V channel, which she could use to move a slide and unlock the door to the secret room in which she was now sitting. The room was hidden behind a structure, and you could see outside. There was a stone slab by the window, where you could sit or even sleep. There was no electricity, so you had to use a candle stand to light candles. But there was a small shelf that had books on it, making it the perfect place to come to be by yourself and read alone. And in case of an emergency, you could hide from your boyfriend.

Tessa giggled as she thought about Killian trying to find her. She is loving this day.
