Chapter 61: "Tangled Webs of War"

Ajé Kingdom was renowned for its wealth and economic influence, establishing it as a pivotal trading hub among neighboring realms. In addition to their robust economic standing, they were known as devout Ajé worshippers, from whom the kingdom's name, 'Ajé,' is derived. Ajé is revered as the goddess of wealth and fortune, a significant deity across the continent, celebrated through a benevolent festival. their military prowess remained comparatively modest. However, they held strategic significance due to their proximity to Fadaka kingdom, especially amidst the impending invasion by the Jagud Invaders. Within the Ajé kingdom, the general, Prince Rogba, the Crown Prince, and some commanders were meticulously planning their course of action.

"We're incredibly close, and we can swiftly dispatch our army. It will take them just a few days without rest," a commander strategized.

"But we need intelligence on the enemy troops," the Crown Prince interjected. Prince Rogba concurred, emphasizing the necessity of information.

"Speak," the general ordered a spy they had captured.

"The enemy forces number five hundred thousand, aided by the Abogunrin kingdom," the spy divulged.

"Is there more?" Prince Rogba pressed, seeking comprehensive details.

"We require additional information," the Crown Prince instructed, prompting the spy to divulge further.

"Several kingdoms are supporting the invaders. Fadaka kingdom holds great political influence, military might, and economic power. It's no surprise many kingdoms covet its fall. We have only 8000 troops, and within Fadaka kingdom, only 150,000 soldiers remain. Prince Rogba may need to seek further alliances," the general explained, painting a grim picture. Prince Rogba felt a tinge of disappointment, hesitating to call upon additional alliances due to the inevitable demands they would impose after victory. The Crown Prince sensed his struggle and offered solace, understanding the weight of the decision.

"I know what you're going through." The crown prince said holding prince Rogba shoulder

" Can you help me send word to Prince Niyi at the Oyo Empire? He could aid us," Prince Rogba implored, seeking to garner more support.

"The Oyo Empire lies quite a distance away; it would take months for their armies to arrive here, if at all," the Crown Prince explained. Prince Rogba, determined, interrupted him, urging him to proceed.

"Please, just do it," Prince Rogba requested, and the Crown Prince promptly summoned a man and instructed him to deliver the crucial message before the man teleported away.

Meanwhile, back in Fadaka kingdom, at the north-west barracks, tension was palpable. The third prince, growing impatient, inquired about their waiting time, his frustration evident. A soldier rushed in, delivering urgent news—the invaders were launching an assault from the south. The general, though, saw through the ruse, recognizing the invaders' strategic deception.

"It's a trick. They know that if they attack from the south, they'll be defeated. The southern archduchess is a formidable opponent. This means they plan to attack tonight, attempting to catch us off guard. We need to set a trap," the general declared, rallying his men and plotting their next moves.
