Love is the bliss everyone seeks but it comes with hate that leaves the heart broken.
"Nnajagua, I heard your only daughter is now in Walanga?" Mutago asked
Nnajagua who had stepped out for a bottle of gin looked at his friend with contempt. Of course he knew why he was asking. Despite the modern age, Naburi still saw female education as a waste of resources. But Nnajagua was a man of few words.
" It is as you have heard, my friend." Nnajagua said sipping his gin.
"Hmmm, it sounds unlike you to send her to school. No offense but you are a man deeply rotted in the culture and norms of our people. I never expected you will consider female education." Mutago said.
Nnajagua was silent for a while as if thinking of how to shut Mutago and his trappy questions.
"Can you stop an eagle from flying. It is her destiny to go to Walanga, should I stop the hands of destiny?" Nnajagua answered.
Mutago was puzzled.
As expected, Nnajagua can not be trapped.
"The society is developing Mutago, and Naburi should develop with it. The hunger I see in the eyes of this young ones, is something that if we keep denying them, it may amount to something rebellious. " Nnajagua said.
" But Nnajagua, are you implying that females should have equal rights as the male?" Mutago asked.
Nnajagua eyed the cunning man sitting before him suspiciously.
"Far be it that I summon such rebellion. As far as the name Naburi stands, the man remains the Lord and the women must respect him as such. I won't let this community be another victim of fallen powers. That is the order of things from beginning and that is how it will be as long as I am alive." Nnajagua said.
He sipped the last of his gin and stood up.
"The day is far spent and I must return to my house" Nnajagua said walking out of the bar.
"See you when the day breaks" Mutago greeted. He sneered silently.
" This man is too stiff. Can't he speak plainly. Always have an answer to every question. Well the higher a man climbs up the ladder the more dangerous his fall will be. Nnajagua I do not wish you bad but a man must fall for another man to rise" Mutago said.
**********************************************
Nnajagua slowly walks into his house. From the passage, he could perceive the sweet aroma of Namini food, his wife. He can not stop blessing God for giving him such a woman. But of course he will never tell her that. He makes his way to his chamber and change his cloths.
"My Lord, you are back?" Namini greeted.
The tall woman with a striking remblence to Deborah. Light skinned and perfectly endowed for her age. One could easily mistake her for a woman in her early 30's.
Her voice sounded like the spring at the early hours of the day. Her voice was comfort to his ears.
Nnajagua who had his back turned towards her, slowly came face to face to her. Namini bows her head as a sign of respect. In Naburi, a woman should not look the males in the eyes. It seen as a sign of submission and obedience.
"Namini daughter of Maili , the mother of my children. Yes your Lord is back and hopes you prepared a banquet for him because the day work has eaten up his strength. " Nnajagua praised.
Of course this was an indirect way of saying he was in a good mood. Namini's eyes were filled with pride.
" Even if my hands are cut off, there will always be a banquet waiting for my Lord each day." Namini said.
She knew her husband was in a god mood and her heart was beating like a teenager in love. She was the envy amongst women. Nnajagua treats his wife the best and she owns him her worship.
"Then lead the way" Nnajagua said
Namini walks before her husband as he followed her to the dining.
Swaying her curvous hips with the steps of an African woman. Nnajagua made a note to remind his sons to marry a woman with their mothers shape. But he doubt they will be lucky because there were only two women with this type of beauty. One was his wife and the other was his daughter.
Thinking of Deborah, made him remember that she is already of age and suitors will become more pressing than before. He knows that she will not accept any of them untill she is done at Walanga.
Her yellow brown eyes was stuck at his mind.
The fire in those eyes were like nothing he has seen before. He know she possess his kind of tiger. But that will is too powerful for a woman and it's scares him.
