A peacekeeper takes me to the back of a green truck and opens the back revealing it's full of people.
"You're the last pickup." He says opening the latch and dropping the door. A woman looks at me and grabs my hand pulling me up.
"What're you doing here?" She asks.
"Falsely accused." I answer sitting down.
"Angelica." She says nodding and holding out her hand.
"Wade." I say shaking her hand.
"Why didn't you stay, that's what I would've done anyways." She says.
"I pissed off the wrong guy." I answer looking out the window spotting a fire in the distance.
"That's why I'm here." Angelica says pointing to the fire. "Wasn't old enough to join when NewRussia attacked, killed my mom and dad." She says with a fierce anger in her eyes.
"The first attack was over 6 years ago." I say.
"Yeah haven't forgotten it and I won't forget about it until I kill a Russian bastard." She says.
"I get it." I say.
"They kill your family also?" She asks.
"No but my dad was in the aerospace navy and was killed in a surprise attack. Took his body and desecrated it for propaganda, he was one of the top admirals." I say.
"That just means we both have a reason." Angela says.
"Yeah, and they separate men and women so we probably won't see each other again." I say. "Good luck."
"Yeah, you too." She says when the door opens.
"EVERYONE OFF MY TRUCK!" A peacekeeper yells grabbing me and dragging me off the truck. "LET'S GO MOVE IT MOVE IT WOMEN ON THE LEFT MEN ON THE RIGHT!" I run up with my bag to the peacekeeper on the right. "THROW YOUR BAGS TO YOUR SIDE!" He yells I immediately grab my bag and throw it to my right.
"WHY ARE YOU SLOUCHING?!" I hear a peacekeeper scream to a guy behind me.
"Sorry sir." He says.
"DON'T HALF ASS THAT APOLOGY! IT'S YES SIR! UNDERSTAND!"
"YES SIR, SORRY SIR!"
"PERFECT!" The peacekeeper says walking to the front. "LISTEN UP!" He says, I stand up a little taller bringing my shoulders back a little. "I'm done screamin as long as everyone listens understood?" He asks.
"YES SIR!" Everyone says.
"GOOD!" He says. "Here's the rules. You do as you're told when you're told and how you're told to do it." He says pacing. "This isn't going to be a little lovey dovey I kiss your ass. No, it's hard, demanding and you had better be disciplined and do everything I tell you to."
"YES SIR!"
"I like you all already." He says with a smile. "ALRIGHT LET'S GO IN THE BARRACKS MOVE NOW GO!" He starts screaming again. I pick up my bag and follow the peacekeeper walking into a building, he points at a cot with green sheets and 4 beds above it. I grab the ladder and start climbing to the 4th bed throwing my pack on it.
"Damn!" Someone says. "Wasn't expecting that."
"Hey we need to get unpacked and be ready when he comes back." Someone else says making their bed. "Been here before got kicked out cause of an injury just make your bed and set your pack on your pillow." I nod and start making my bed with the olive green sheets rolled up on the bed when the door busts open with a loud pop.
"ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, FIVE, SIX, SEVEN, EIGHT AND A HALF." He says walking up and down counting beds that are made. "WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR ROOM LIKE THIS?!" He yells in some kids face. "ANSWER ME!"
"Becau-" The kid begins to say.
"LOUDER! YOU DON'T TALK TO ME WHEN YOU'RE ANSWERING ME!"
"YES SIR! BECAUSE WE JUST GOT HERE SIR!" The kid yells.
"SO YOU'RE GONNA LEAVE YOUR ROOM LIKE THIS WHEN YOU GO TO WAR?"
"NO SIR!"
"SO HOW IS THIS ANY DIFFERENT?!"
"IT ISN'T SIR!" The kid yells.
"THEN MAKE YOUR DAMN BED, ALL OF YOU!" He says storming out. "I'LL BE BACK IN 2 MINUTES EVERY BED SHOULD BE MADE AND YOU ALL SHOULD BE READY FOR MEAL TIME!" He yells slamming the door shut. No one says a word and people just stand around looking at the others.
"COME ON WHAT'RE WE DOING?!" Someone yells clapping. "LET'S GO WE DON'T HAVE TIME TO SIT AROUND!" I set my pack on my pillow and see a guy struggling in the bunk underneath me.
"Hey you need some help?" I ask climbing down.
"If you're offering." He says pulling the sheet. "I can't get a good foothold to be able to pull."
"Yeah it was hard." I say. " I turned my foot sideways and kinda tucked it into the frame." I say showing him. He follows my lead and shoves his foot in the side of his bed and yanks on the sheet pulling it.
"Hey, thanks man."
"You better repay that favor." I say.
"What do you want?"
"Watch my back for me, you do that and i'll watch yours." I say holding my hand out. "I'm Wade."
"Jackson." The guy says gripping my hand shaking it. "I got your back."
I nod climbing back up to my bed making small finish touches when the door slams open again.
"HELL YEAH MUCH BETTER!" The peacekeeper yells walking up and down each row of bunks. He makes it to a bunk that isn't finished yet the recruit not fully able to finish putting his pillow case on. "What the hell is that?" The peacekeeper asks getting the recruits face.
"SORRY SIR, I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO FINISH SIR!" The recruit yells.
The peacekeeper shakes his head throwing the recruits pillow across the barracks. The recruit moves to pick the pillow up when another recruit puts his hand on his chest stopping him from moving. The peacekeeper turns around seeing the recruit holding the other back.
"You've been here before huh?" The peacekeeper asks.
"YES SIR!" The recruit says.
"Looking out for your brothers I like it." The peacekeeper says turning back around inspecting more bunks screaming at recruits who either haven't finished their bunk or it isn't perfect. He finally stops inspecting bunks walking out the door. "Go get your dinner lights out at 22:00."
