Mae's groggy consciousness slowly began to awaken, much like a dreamy fog lifting. Her vision was unfocused, and her surroundings seemed to sway and blend together, causing her to see double. She blinked several times in an attempt to clear her view, but the dizziness persisted.
With a dry and parched mouth, she smacked her lips together, her tongue feeling thick and heavy. A mild headache throbbed in the side of her head, making her utter a low grumble. "Urgh... my head feels so heavy," she murmured, her voice sounding weak and distant to her own ears. As Mae tried to raise her hand to rub her temples, her weak arm struggled to follow her command, and it slumped back down onto her lap.
"She's awake! The girl is conscious. What do I do?" Rex's words grew anxious with his heart pounding in his chest.
"Stop being an ass and put her back to sleep" The man who had gone in to spy before, and is now driving the Van answered back.
