The ordinary world is not what it seems.
Many strange events unfold in the background but go unnoticed by the masses or are covered up.
A supernatural world exists along with the natural world which can only be seen by those called Balancers.
Spirits and Evil Spirits exist along with Balancers who possess unique powers to see and fight them.
Among the many ordinary humans, a girl undergoes a lot of suffering and experiences a prophetic vision.
It grants her knowledge of the hidden world and of some future events.
The girl loses almost everything she has and then takes the steps needed to become a Balance Breaker.
Her past identity has to be abandoned for the sake of survival so she renamed herself Ash.
Ash gains the powers of a Skin-Walker and begins living in such a world taking on the appearances of others, experiencing their lives and living under the mask of another person.

The current level of Life Energy she possessed could hardly be used to defend herself properly and it was even more unwise to use them on civilians who were just doing their duty.

The moment that a Balancer started to cause public displays of their abilities without restraint was when the others would come to know of her status as a Balancer but what resulted of that would be so much worse.

Balancers had their own rules and secrecy was what they aimed to keep.

Using spells and other abilities on civilians or in a public setting was like asking for trouble since it would risk exposing the secret of the world to the masses.

When a secret society wished to remain secret, they made certain to silence who needed to be silenced and kill whoever posed the biggest risk to exposing everything.
