The ordinary world is not what it seems.
Many strange events unfold in the background but go unnoticed by the masses or are covered up.
A supernatural world exists along with the natural world which can only be seen by those called Balancers.
Spirits and Evil Spirits exist along with Balancers who possess unique powers to see and fight them.
Among the many ordinary humans, a girl undergoes a lot of suffering and experiences a prophetic vision.
It grants her knowledge of the hidden world and of some future events.
The girl loses almost everything she has and then takes the steps needed to become a Balance Breaker.
Her past identity has to be abandoned for the sake of survival so she renamed herself Ash.
Ash gains the powers of a Skin-Walker and begins living in such a world taking on the appearances of others, experiencing their lives and living under the mask of another person.

All of it could just be a good lure to recruit and tie her to them then she would be stuck to them like how Max was heavily tied to Gerald.

When Max heard her offer, his expression became thankful for a moment but it soon disappeared.

His expression hardened as he replied. "I cannot do that. I will figure something out myself."

He was already considering asking for more work from Gerald rather than taking a loan or handout from Ash.

His pride would not allow him to accept her help and he would much rather go to Gerald for more work to solve his problems.

The main problem was that it was something that Gerald wanted to happen more than anything.

Gerald wanted Max to keep coming to him the moment he was in trouble so that he could put a much tighter leash on him.

Max was falling into the carefully laid out trap that had been designed by Gerald who did not wish to lose him to others and wanted to put him to further use.
