I turned around and grabbed the eraser from the floor. I also took the wallet from the floor and lifted it up.
"This is yours, isn't it?"
I said while lifting the wallet, and everyone in the room turned shocked.
"I-It is!!"
The girl rushed forward and took the wallet from my hand. She cried as she held the wallet tightly, and she opened the contents to search for the item.
She took out a piece of paper, which seemed to be a letter. She opened the letter and confirmed the contents, and she let out a long sigh of relief.
"It's here… it's still here…"
She said while crying, and everyone else also became relieved. They began to approach her, but one person still had their eyes on me.
"How did you--"
"Hey. The wallet came back to the owner, didn't it?"
I said coldly to her, and she cannot look more pissed. It didn't take long until the others caught up with what's going on, and silence took over the room once again.
I placed the eraser down at the teacher's table and patted the girl in the shoulder. I said nothing and simply began walking to the exit. I stopped by the exit and turned to the group inside the class, specifically towards the girl who spoke to me earlier.
"Feel free to take any assumptions. Either way, I don't care. Also, you guys should check the bottom of the teacher's table better, next time."
I said coldly after opening my facemask, and then I just walked away.
I don't care what they think, anyway. If they want to report me for stealing the wallet, then so be it. I can always use the CCTV footage as my evidence.
I'm not afraid… because I know that I have successfully avoided the worse case scenario.
The naughty spirit… will stand there for the rest of the day until tomorrow. And it won't do anything.
The day finally ended, and everyone went back home. The next day, everything turned back to normal. The girl who lost the wallet naturally turned smiling again, knowing that she had saved her father's career from danger.
One thing that changed almost unnoticeably was how everyone's perspective about me has changed. Now, did it become better or worse?
It's obvious, isn't it?
"She stole the wallet?? Really?"
"Yeah. The guys saw her leaving the school gate, but then she came back after one of the boys shouted about how Emil's dad will lose her job."
"She also said that she came back to do chores, but she already did the chores alongside the others. She definitely came back to return the wallet."
"Did she take anything? I bet she was planning on taking the contents."
And… there it is. The curse.
I've always perceived it as a curse. It has to be, otherwise there is just no reason for it to be happening. It happened back then, and it happened again. Without a doubt, what is happening has to be a curse.
Just like my ability to see ghosts.
"Tell me honestly. Why did you take the wallet in the first place?"
The same girl as yesterday, the one who confronted me inside the classroom, is now interrogating me alongside four other female students.
The first lesson hasn't even started yet. Hell, the school bell hasn't even rang yet. Everyone was just arriving, and the air was still cold and fresh. Students came to school with the intention of socializing with the other students and studying, but this girl easily chose blood.
I think now that she has obtained backup, she now has the courage and the rights to interrogate me for 'stealing' the wallet.
But in reality…
Well, I can't really say that, can I?
"I didn't. Steal. The wallet."
I said coldly to her. Certainly, I wasn't even trying to convince her or anyone. Because, why would I? I already made it clear that I don't care what they assume of me. Explaining myself to them is only going to be a waste of time, and the outcome will still be the same as this one.
And when you have four girls backing you up, you just have the power to do anything.
BAM!!!!
She suddenly slammed my desk which completely startled everyone. Now, everyone in the class had their attention towards us.
"Stop. Lying."
"What do you want, then? Do you want money, is that it?"
I asked mockingly, and that successfully ticked her off even more.
Gosh, this is just so annoying--
"Peach!! Stop it!!"
The wallet girl, Emil, suddenly shouted as she stood from her desk. It looks like she understood what happened, and clearly she is not agreeing with the actions that these girls are taking.
Peach, the bully right next to me, ignored Emil completely and kept her eyes on my hair. I'm still ignoring her face, mainly because I just couldn't see her face to face.
After all, who is brave enough to face five people at once? I'm scared to death here.
"… Fine, then. Let's see just how long you can keep up these antics of yours."
She pulled her face away from me and she began walking away. Behind her, the other girls also followed, all while loudly saying mockeries about me.
Without a doubt, my high school life is only about to become so much worse after today. And to anyone else, they might see this action as justice. After all, I'm the one who stole the wallet.
But, what about how I feel?
Hkkk...
No… please, not now.
I lowered my head a little, at least low enough so that my long black hair is capable of hiding away my face. I didn't take off my glasses even though I have to, but doing that will only alert everyone about what I'm doing right now.
I opened my phone underneath the table so that it seemed like I was playing with my phone under the table. But in reality, it was nothing like that.
Hikkkkk.....
God damn…
Life… really sucks…
As the tears fell to the screen of my phone, I tried very hard not to make a single sound. I know for certain that everyone will just laugh at me if I did. After all, who is old enough to cry right after they entered high school?
I kept the tears as hidden as possible, and I managed to not leak a single sound. My throat felt like it was burning, but I quickly drank water to clear it. Because immediately, Emil approached me to see if I'm okay.
"I-I'm sorry…"
Emil said after arriving at my desk, but I shook my head at her. I'm still keeping my head down, because my eyes must be really swollen and wet from the tears. However, I still have to say something to her.
"Just ignore me. It's best for both of us."
I said to her coldly, using the same tone that I have always used. Hearing that, Emil stayed silent until she finally walked away from my table.
Good… just stay away from me.
All of you… just stay… the hell away.
I don't need anyone. And I won't need anyone. I'm living for my own self, and I only do the things that I want.
Helping others… has always been a mistake. I knew that, and yet I did it anyway. What was I thinking, anyway?? Hah… everything is just so funny.
Humans… have always been scumbags.
After that, everything just flows naturally. The bell finally rang, and the first lesson started. Everyone enjoyed their school life as usual, and nothing out of the ordinary happened.
Well, the only thing unordinary… was my existence.
Why am I even here? These people don't even want me. Why do I have to exist amongst them?
Clearly… it wouldn't hurt to disappear, right?
But, doing that will only tell them that I'm a scaredy-cat. It will only confirm that I am the wallet thief, and my action of leaving was proof of it.
I can't leave. I will have to live with this from now on. And over time, maybe my innocence can be proven. But… how long will it take until then? How many more painful things do I have to endure until such a thing happens? Will it even happen?
Hahh… this is just the worst day ever.
And… it can only get worse from here on out.
"So, she's the one?"
Quickly, I turned a glance towards the door. Immediately, I knew for certain that my school life was over.
Lunch break just started, and there seemed to be a commotion right outside the door.
Outside the door was a group of students. From their faces, I couldn't recognize them, but I do remember some of them being the students who grouped up by the gate yesterday. Lots of guys and girls from other classes, probably the class leaders of the other classes.
And amongst them… was him.
"Is she the one?"
"Yes. What are you going to do, Nick?"
"I just want to have a chat with her. Ah, in private, please!"
I kept my eyes on the group outside the door, and out of all of them, only two people entered the classroom.
One of them was Peach. The bully who just couldn't understand human language. And the other… was him.
Nicolas Class, the most popular dude in our year.
Nicolas entered the classroom with a big grin on his face, and from his walk, I know for certain that he is walking towards me. Not only that, his blue eyes were locked on to me.
He arrived not far from me, and he immediately spotted the empty chair that was in front of me. Since the owner is currently away, he decided that the seat is going to be his.
Also, he is surprisingly not that tall. Being next to him, I realized that he was probably the same height as Peach, who is the tallest girl in the class. But, even the tallest girl is still rather short for boys' standards.
Nicolas sat on the chair in front of me with his body facing backwards, having his legs on both sides of the chair and facing his face straight to mine.
"Hey, there! You must be Elizabeth, right?"
He suddenly said so cheerfully, and I can't help but be amazed by his facial features. His eyes were so bright blue, and I just don't believe for a second that those were eyes. His skin is not that pale, but it's clean and smooth enough to make his face look so young. His thick eyelids carried his extremely feminine look, and his small nose also supported that side of him.
Everything about his face is just so perfect. And to top it all, his voice was so soft. He is the perfect dream guy for all ladies in our year.
I would be captivated by his looks so hard if it wasn't for the situation. I know for certain as to why he is here, and looking around, the audience also knows why he is here.
To interrogate me.
Everyone stayed silent and listened to my conversation with the prettiest boy in our school, and every word that I said will enter their memories forever.
I'm sorry… pretty boy. But since you have come here to be my enemy…
I won't hold back.
"Yes. What do you want?"
I said coldly at him, which definitely pissed off every single student that was listening, especially the females. I turned a glance towards the door, and I can see Peach alongside the other students holding back their anger towards me.
But, to my surprise, Nicolas wasn't affected by my cold answer.
"Ah! I'm not here to make an enemy! I just wanted to ask you something, and possibly a favor. Is that okay?"
He said cheerfully again, as if completely unfazed by my cold answer. Surprisingly, he is a tough opponent to crack.
But, I can see through his play. He is just acting as the good hero who is being kind to the villain, but then he loses the act and kills the villain later on after the villain drops their guard. This is all textbook superhero drama.
Everyone else also seemed to have noticed this. They all stayed silent, waiting for my answer.
"Is that so? Then?"
Again, with the cold act, I spoke to him while toying around with my phone a little bit. Seeing this, everyone totally loses their mind.
Well, I'm just not buying into this act. What do you want me to do, lower myself down and kiss this guy on his shoes, only for him to kick me later on?
If I'm not winning this fight, then I won't make the defeat so easy. I'll take you down with me, pretty boy. You'll learn how it feels to mess with me.
At least… that's what I thought of him, at first.
It's quite sad that it was my first impression of him, to be honest. After all, it was absolutely…
Absolutely… nothing like that.
"I heard that you can see ghosts! Can you tell me more about what you see!?"
…
HUH!?!?
