“Mark, if you help me, I promise I will do anything for you in return. Just as long as cheating is not involved.”

“You will do anything I want?” Mark probed, his eyes glittering as he focused on her. He now seemed more interested in her promise than in whatever it was she wanted from him.

“Yes, I give you my word.”

Mark stared into her eyes and seeing how desperate she was, he leaned back into his seat and tapped his fingers on the table. “Careful what you promise, Darling, I’m not a good boy.” 

“I don’t care,” Elena replied with determination in her eyes. “I’m not a good girl either.”

"It's fine," Elena replied. Although she didn't like talking about her past, she was appreciative of the fact that he was interested in her matter for the greater good.

Letting out a breath, she placed her palms on her lower belly and went down memory lane. She told her story in detail.

"My Dad's friend who was his business partner betrayed him. My Dad was accused of embezzling and misappropriating company funds. It got so bad that he was taken into custody. Back then, there was someone I used to be engaged to. My mum and I turned to his family for help, but they ended up breaking off the engagement because they didn't want to associate with anyone that would bring trouble to them."

"You were really once engaged?" Mark asked while staring at her. He remembered that she had mentioned something like this that night from five years ago. That was the reason she had escaped to drink away her sorrows. He could remember now.
