Voice of the People

As Aki and I neared Kazumachi, I could feel a funny flip in my stomach, like a fish doing flips. I knew this journey was important, but I didn't expect this feeling.

"Are we there yet, Ye?" Aki asked, her voice soft like a kitten's purr. She was looking forward to meeting the villagers.

"Almost, Aki," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady. I didn't want her to feel my worry.

The sky was clear and the birds were singing, but something felt off. Like when you see a picture that looks perfect, but then you notice one thing out of place. I could not put my finger on it, but I felt it.

As we entered the village, the feeling grew stronger. It was too quiet. I had expected noise, laughter, maybe even cheers. But all I heard was silence. It was like the calm before a storm.

"I don't like this, Ye," Aki whispered, her eyes wide with worry. I squeezed her hand, hoping to comfort her.
