Arrival (2)

3rd Person POV

In the quiet neighborhood, they woke up to the piercing sound of whistles cutting through the early morning silence, it was echoing through the streets. Some people woke up and looked out the window to see one gigantic old man running while blowing a whistle while being followed by 2 new unfamiliar faces.

It was about 6 by now, the Silvers woke up at around 4:20 am to be ready by 5, they did some warm-ups and the captain instructed them to run till now. They got breaks in between here and there, but they are still tired nonetheless.

"Alright, that's enough for the morning, go wash up." the captain instructed "Today is the first day, so we can't go too tough on you."

"Yes, sir." both replied

"Can you 2 repeat the purpose of our exercises?"

"To build up our muscles and stamina." Shawn answered while panting heavily.

His lungs were burning with each breath as he strained to just barely keep up the pace. His breath was shallow and he feel as if his legs might buckle at any moment.

"Correct." the captain nodded "Especially on the front lines, you'll be fighting and staying on the field for hours on end, you will need stamina to last, and enough to run when you need to retreat for your life. As for muscles, angels aren't stupid, they will close in when necessary, we cannot overpower them, but we can at least try to defend ourselves and disarm them if necessary, especially when you're out of mana, they're all you're gonna have.

"Humanity may be outnumbered, and we may be weaker, and there may be times when it can feel like the odds are stacked against us, that we are powerless in the face of overwhelming challenges. But throughout history, humanity has shown time and time again that we are not so easily defeated. So work hard, and I'll make sure that you 2 can become great wizards."

Shawn POV

After washing up, we are to head to the address that he left for us on this note on the table, it seems that he left early, we checked the address and it was an address for a restaurant, which was great since we didn't really have any breakfast.

I thought about just snacking on the protein bars or something, but it seems like we didn't really need to.

We got our uniforms on, which in our case, was the academy's PE uniform, it's made with good fabric that is apparently magic resistant, and easy to move in, which was great for us wizards. The uniform was a black and yellow polo shirt with a small badge of the phoenix crest on our chest and long black pants, we can wear any trainers we want, they recommend magic-resistant ones, but we haven't bought them yet, they are quite expensive.

We should be wearing armor, but our PE uniform can substitute for it as we can't afford it yet, I mean our eldest brother did leave some money for such occasions, but until we really need it, we'll go with the cheapest option.

"Don't forget the jacket?" Perseus reminded

"Say, I thought you said you don't like being called Percy."

"I don't. Not that I like my name either, but can't disrespect our parents' wishes."

"So why didn't you tell him?"

"We live in a foreign country, mate. I let them call me whatever they're comfortable with, besides, this is our job. Can't be concerned about such things, not like it's an insult."

"Fair. I'll be honest, I was expecting some sort of tough test where he had us fight him to let us know how powerless we really are."

"Oh, now who's obsessed with fictional stories?" my brother responded sarcastically as he locked the doors once we left "Our lives aren't always going to be like some sort of fictional stories, I mean some aspects are, but not 100%."

We then made our way to the restaurant while we talked on the way, I stood out a bit, I'm like the most foreign-looking guy in this part of town, so it makes sense. And walking by my side is a doofus in a blindfold.

"We got hit by a mechanical angel on the first day, I had to expect something. Ain't bad being cautious."

"True, but speaking of progression, I expect our school to be invaded during our lifetime." he said "It happens all the time in stories, the safest place for a certain group of people will always get invaded by their enemies."

"You seriously need to stop reading those books. Might as well make an assumption that in some universe out there, you have some harem which includes some nation's queen or one where you have a goddess as a lover."

"If the multiverse is true, then yes, all of that is possible."

We talked for a bit and we then arrived at the restaurant, based on the info, this restaurant usually opens at 9, but it seems that they're opening earlier for us, we can see a few people with police uniforms inside, and the captain among them, I assume that this is probably some sort of welcome party.

He saw us and beckoned us inside, and sure enough it was, these people are going to be the ones who we were spending our time with. Everyone introduced themselves and everyone was briefed on how our schedule would go while we're here.

We're even expected to do night patrols, which...hah...well, I'm not happy about it, but what am I going to do. Challenge the UPF? The system works, and it ensures humanity's survival. We're expected to do actual work under these people's guidance, today is a free day usually, but we're still expected to be kept in a certain shape.

We live in a level 3 danger zone, there are occasional angel strays, and we're expected to be ready to fight them at any given time.

"Don't worry about a captain coming here any time soon." Captain Ida reassured "They will be intercepted before they can arrive, though you'll meet quite a few angels, and you'll be fighting them face on."
