Hellbent (4)

Perseus POV

Level 3 danger zones, we should see an angel or 2 every 2-3 weeks, so we are expected to meet one during our first period here, but here I am, just doing my assignments in my part of this office space.

I was thinking, maybe being a part of the main cast of characters will cause some sort of unlucky trigger for catastrophic events that can get me some trouble, hopefully, these events don't hurt anyone of course, I'm not that selfish.

Did I set a flag? maybe, or I could have canceled the flag by being aware of plot progression because I think of myself as a person existing within a fictional world.

As I was doing my work, my girlfriend send a video call my way during my work hour, luckily I'm allowed to pick this up, especially if they know it was her, they'll wish that I didn't hang up the call.

"Yo, what's up?"

"I woke up early to call you and your response is 'Yo, what's up?'." she pouted

"Okay, how are you? And why are you up early, I'm like 7 hours ahead, and it's 12:34 pm. It's not that early."

"I'm good, thank you very much." she replied "Today's my day off, but it's already a habit to wake up around this time, so I thought that I'd just call you for fun."

"I could be in the middle of an important assignment. And I am."

"Well, do you need help? I'm a second year and our curriculum is pretty much the same since we're both in the A class."

"Nah, I got it, I'm almost done with everything, it's pretty peaceful so far, so I got time."

"What have you done so far?"

"Helped intercept a distraught man, a lot of physical training in the morning, helped with paperwork...got some patrol shift, and that's pretty much it other than my own personal assignments."

"Hmm, I went through a similar thing, don't worry, a level 3 zone will have a stray angel or 2, you'll fight one sooner or later."

"How'd you know I'm in a level 3 danger zone? I didn't tell you that."

"I'm a bit of a celebrity in the circle of sorcerers, so I managed to get the list of participants in the upcoming project earlier than everyone else."

"Damn it."

"You know, you should appreciate me more, you won't find anyone like me in the world."

"A bit too overly affectionate for my liking."

"You can complain now, but I'll know that you can't stop me once we meet in person."

"I knew that I shouldn't have saved your life back then."

"Percy, are you having an unrelated call during work hours?" The captain's voice asked as I turned my back.

"Uh, yeah."

"Is it your family member or instructor?"

"No sir."

"Then who...oh." he uttered

"Uh, it's not his fault." Minerva said after she put on her translation device "I was just calling on him to check up on him, I can end the call if you wish for it."

"What is your relation to my apprentice?" the captain asked

"I'm his girlfriend." she answered honestly

"Huh?"

"Is that really so unbelievable?" she asked me this time

"Well, I already have a hard time having people believe that I have a girlfriend, so having one who's you doesn't really sound plausible."

"That's because you're bad at socializing, sunshine." she responded as the captain was just there with his shocked expression and mouth agape

"Your friends don't believe you either, princess."

The captain called some people over just for confirmation that this isn't a dream and now I'm at the center of unnecessary attention. Shawn peeked his head over and I can tell from his facial expression that he was saying 'Yeah, I'm not helping, sorry bro.'

"Can you all like respectfully back off now?"

"I thought you were lying when you said you know her." the detective responded "There are a lot of people who delude themselves into thinking themselves in such relationships."

"She's still a student, I don't get why you're all so starstruck, she's weaker than you."

"Yeah, but she's already a level 3 witch at her age, that's super rare, and you should be more grateful, treat her better for goodness sake."

"See, I told you." Minerva's voice blared from the tablet "You'll never find someone like me in your life, you should reciprocate my love more."

"I-I..."

"Don't worry, even if you're lonely for life, I'll stay by your side." Minerva said

"It doesn't make me feel any better." I sigh

Just how do I get along with this woman?

Perseus POV

I crouched against a wall on the roof while eating my dinner, I occasionally peek my head above the wall to scan the town below. I couldn't help but appreciate the beauty of this small town. The twinkling lights of the street lamps illuminated the charming architecture of the buildings, and the distant hum of crickets added to the peaceful ambiance. It was a town that deserved to be protected, and I was willing to do whatever it took to keep it safe.

I was scanning the darkened streets below. It was a quiet night, but that didn't mean danger wasn't lurking around every corner. There are no sorcerers in this town, so I had taken it upon myself to watch over it, just to keep people safe.

"You seriously need to eat more." Ezra advised, "A peanut butter and jelly sandwich can't provide enough energy and it's also quite unhealthy for a future wizard."

"Well, tonight's pretty quiet, so I can add another sandwich to satisfy ya."

"Dad will kill you if he finds out about how I helped my brother learn parkour and become some sort of secret vigilante who's hellbent on revenge."

As I ate my second sandwich, Ezra perked up.

"I can hear several ghosts screaming." he said as I threw the sandwich into a ziplock bag and then into my backpack "They're screaming about someone being cornered."

"Just as I had bitten into my second sandwich, damn it."
