Teacher's Regret (6)

Shawn POV

"That woman is my nightmare, how the hell did the rest of you deal with her?" Perseus exclaimed as we got back in the room "She just kept on talking? Are the French always this annoying? They're supposed to be stereotypically rude, not friendly, and talkative."

"I thought that the stereotype was them being romantic?"

We got back to our room and prepared to rest for the night, Julie was a very interesting person to talk to, she was very bright and cheery, the conversation was never awkward since she always kept us in an engaging mood, but she was like the bane to Perseus' existence, he hates talkative people.

"Clearly not." he replied as he got to the top bunk.

The captain currently is having a night out with the other mentors and eating outside, so it'll be a while before he came back, so we're allowed to pretty much have our own schedule for tonight, no curfew or anything, but we rather not miss anything, we planned on joining the boat trip tomorrow.

Apparently, we can see flying angels with a telescope on the boat, the Captain managed to get us an early one tomorrow instead of having to wait for weeks, and we have to get to our boat by like 8 am, so we can't afford to be late, it's a day trip that last till 5:30 pm.

It's a fun and risky activity, the ship will let us see different vantage points of how the angels are taking over the island. Man, the island is still a heavy topic for every community worldwide, but at the same time, it's currently one of the toughest zones to take back.

The Hokkaido reclamation project is actively recruiting the level 9 sorcerers, and the moment one agrees to come on, the plan will start, and currently, they plan on it happening within 2 years, and this current program is actually a good opportunity for us to show off and be recruited for it as well.

The island is led by a level 8 general, and the satellites can capture the image of the island, but for proper planning for the reclamation, they need several cameramen to charge in to film with no guarantee of returning.

Many of the angels hide in buildings to maintain tactical advantages, making it harder for humanity to plan effective countermeasures.

Their only known activities are that they are and are currently searching for any humans left on the island and eliminating every possible survivor, no cameramen have come out alive, and one of the requirements to film everything on the island is being a level 6, but even they can't face groups of angels led by a captain who's at least on their level.

The next day, we woke up and do our daily morning training, we then head to the dining hall for our early breakfast before packing some necessities for our trip, and that means weapons included, angels might attack us if we're in a position they deem vulnerable.

There are several patrol boats setting off for the trip around Hokkaido and observing the island, and for our boat, we're grouped with Julie's and Minerva's group, and Professor Everett joined in as well.

There can't be too many people on one ship, it's easier for the angels to detect us, and that's why there are limited numbers of boats as well. We got on the boat and after a while, we set off.

The boat was fast, I didn't expect that, and after about 30 minutes or so, we can use the telescope to inspect the island.

As I stand on the deck of the boat, my gaze fixed upon the distant shores of Hokkaido. The island, once a place of tranquility and natural beauty, now stands as a somber testament to the power of the angels that have claimed it as their own.

Through the lens of my telescope, I can make out the celestial figures that dot the landscape, their majestic wings outstretched against the vast expanse of the sky. They got several patrol groups going around as well, I can see some staring back at us, but they're not attacking us.

They move with otherworldly grace, their presence both mesmerizing and foreboding. From this safe distance, I find myself torn between marveling at their ethereal beauty and fearing the intentions that lie hidden beneath.

The island, now under the watchful gaze of these angelic beings, bears the scars of their occupation. Once-thriving towns and cities lie in ruins, their streets empty and abandoned. The remnants of human civilization stand as a stark contrast to the divine beings that now reign over them. The air hangs heavy with a sense of loss as if the very essence of humanity has been stripped away.

Yet, even from afar, I can sense the invisible boundaries, the aura of danger. The angels, vigilant in their pursuit of eradicating humanity, leave no stone unturned. Their presence lingers, a constant reminder of the fate that awaits those who dare to cross their path.

As I continue to observe the safety of my boat, a mixture of curiosity and caution fills my thoughts. What led to this invasion?

What provoked the angels to turn against us, to see us as mere prey to be hunted down? The questions swirl within me, but answers remain elusive.

From this vantage point, I can still feel a glimmer of hope, a small ember of resistance burning within.

While I may not be directly in danger at this moment, the plight of my fellow humans weighs heavily on my heart. I yearn for a day when the tides will turn when the angels' grip on Hokkaido will loosen, and the spirit of humanity will rise again.

In the face of such unimaginable odds, I'll have to find hope and face them.

Together, we navigate the treacherous waters, seeking refuge in the few remaining havens beyond the angels' reach.

For now, I stand on this boat, an observer amidst the chaos. My thoughts and prayers are with those left behind, as I bear witness to the unfolding tragedy that has befallen our land.

May the angels' grip on Hokkaido weaken, and may the spirit of humanity endure, resilient and unyielding, even in the face of celestial oppression.

"We'll rid of them someday."
