The job offer

The old wealthy man sat in his study, surrounded by shelves of books and antique furniture. He was a tall and imposing figure, with a face lined by years of experience and a sharp gaze that could pierce through anyone's soul. His name was James Roberts, and he was one of the wealthiest men in town.

He had a problem, though. One of his slaves had run away, and he needed to find her. Her name was Sarah, but she called herself Rocky now. James had heard rumors that Rocky was in love with a Confederate sharpshooter named Henry, and that was why she had fled.

James had tried to locate Rocky through his usual channels, but nothing had turned...up. He needed someone who knew the area and could navigate through the war-torn countryside to find her.

That's when he remembered vasily, a former soldier who had served under him and had a reputation for being fearless and resourceful. James decided to send for vasily and offer him a job to find Rocky.

When vasily arrived at James' estate, he was surprised to see the old man looking so distressed. James explained the situation to him and offered him a substantial amount of money if he could find Rocky and bring her back.

Vasily was hesitant at first, as he didn't want to get involved in a personal matter like this. But the money was too tempting, and he knew that he needed it to start a new life for himself.Vasily set out immediately, his mind racing with thoughts of the rewards that awaited him. He knew it wouldn't be an easy task to find the missing slave girl, but he was determined to succeed.

Vasily had never been to this part of the country before, and it was nothing like he had imagined. The scenery was a stark contrast to the bustling city he was accustomed to, and he felt out of place in this rural setting. But he knew he had a job to do, and he couldn't stop until he found Rocky (Sarah) with his new prototype rifle the berdan 2 .
