Chapter 11: Aiden: Spending the Night

I wrap my arms around her and bury my face into her hair, inhaling deeply. She smells of sweat and the ocean. "You're welcome. He said he wants to leave in the morning, before anyone else wakes up, so don't say anything, okay?"

"I won't." She releases me and shoves her hands into her pockets.

"We should head over to the group," I say.

"Yeah." She keeps her head down as we walk back toward the other survivors. I notice she's no longer limping or favoring her bad foot.

Emily stops and stands off to the side, close enough to hear what's going on but not close enough to be a part of the group. I stand beside her.

"I was able to locate the passenger manifest," Tom says. "And the total number of passengers on this flight was a little over four hundred, including the crew. As we can all see, there are just over twenty of us left."

Someone lets out an audible sob.
