Whoa. Where did all this come from? Does it really bother her that I go to church? "You made a mistake." I grab her arm to turn her to me. "That doesn't make you a screw up."
She grunts and pushes my arm away. "Yeah, right. If you only knew."
"So, enlighten me." I gently bump her shoulder with mine, hating how she's suddenly so upset. Our situation is far from ideal, but that doesn't mean we can't make it bearable, and the best way to do so is to keep things as lighthearted and fun as possible. And I'm going to do whatever it takes to make that happen.
Taking a deep breath, she shakes her head. "Trust me, if you knew, you wouldn't want anything to do with me."
