Lady Claire curtsied before me. "I am pleased to meet you, Marchioness Anais," she said in a soft-spoken tone. There was also a hint of nervousness that lingered on it.


I pursed my lips into a thin line and nodded, acknowledging her presence. As much as I didn't want to exchange conversation with her and wanted to stay away from her, I just couldn't.


"The pleasure is all mine." Then I turned to the others rather than her. "What did I miss?" I asked, smiling.


"You won't believe what Lady Claire said to us, Lady Anais."


"What is it?" I smiled wryly at Lady Gina. I was so uninterested to know but I have to since I asked what I missed from our conversation earlier.


The ladies looked at Lady Claire excitedly. Lady Claire looked at them shyly before she settled her eyes at me. There was a hesitation flared in her eyes as she stared at me.
