Chapter 4 CHAPTER 4: The Will

I WAS staring at the air when I got home. Auntie Amanda was left in the hospital, just as I am, she was crying too because of my father’s loss. But I have a feeling she was just faking her tears. I feel like she is just showing off to get the attention and sympathy of the people.

In those moments, I couldn’t get in and get back to work. His funeral lasted only three days. Auntie Amanda took care of everything which I should be thankful for. Without her help, I don’t know what to do, even in the beginning I didn't like her and her family, Auntie Amanda was kind on the other side.

I was in front of my father's grave and his coffin was being lowered to the ground. Auntie Amanda approached me holding me in both my arms as she is standing at my back. “Don’t be hard on yourself, Darlin. That’s not your fault. Maybe he missed your mother so he left me too.” She even wiped her eyes even though there were no traces of tears there. “Listen up. What you have to take care of now are the things your father left behind.”

Confused I looked her in the eyes as I turned at her to face Auntie Amanda. "What do you mean?"

“Your inheritance, Darlin. You have to survive. We need to live. How can we live without money?”

I nodded at what Auntie Amanda said. Yes, it is half true but I can survive on my own.

They all went home first, I was just left there where my father was buried. Mourning, full of grief, and heartbroken.

I didn’t see Vincent and Maricar or even her brother, Tommy. Glad that they didn’t attend because my attention will be cut.

Maybe after a week, I'll fix what my dad left behind. I want to file a case against Hit and run about my father’s death. I want to catch those offenders, who did this to my father—my innocent beloved father.

But less than a week later the lawyer handling my father's last will arrive. I am surprised by his arrival. I felt like Auntie Amanda contacted him.

I remembered him! I saw him once during the day I and Jenny meet in the boutique for my wedding.

Auntie Amanda stood up and greeted him with a pair of smiles. "I'm glad you came right away, attorney."

“Yes. About the last will.”

I didn't sit on the sofa in the living room because I wasn't interested in my dad's wealth. We only have some properties but I am not even sure if it will be worth millions.

I was about to go to the kitchen when I heard my name.

“For her biological daughter, Angela Roberts. He will leave a small land at her guardian. The vacant land property located in Sta. Barbara, Laguna that measured almost five hundred square meters with a total cost of ten million in Philippine Peso or equivalent to around two hundred thousand U.S. dollars.”

I stopped when I heard that. I immediately approached the lawyer to make a clarification. "Are you serious about that, Attorney?"

“Yes! In fact, three-fourth of his assets will be given to his wife which will be amounting to forty million Philippine Peso or equivalent to around six hundred thousand U.S. dollars.”

“Oh my god! This can’t be real! ” Auntie Amanda widened her eyes as she heard what the attorney said.

"This house will be given to his wife and her children," the lawyer added.

I was dazed and confused. I am the legal daughter but why has that small amount is been given to me? What on earth is happening? This home should be mine since I have a lot of memories here with my parents.

The lawyer stood up who I estimate was in his late forties. “The inheritance will be fulfilled after a month. There are lots of papers that needed to be processed so that they can be a transfer under Angela and your name. I’m going now, Mrs. Roberts. If you need anything, just let me know,” the lawyer said as he gave me a glance.

I just gave the lawyer a smile. I don't want to protest about my father's decision. It was my father’s decision after all and not mine but I am wondering why he was kind enough to give up our home?

I even saw how mom looks at me proudly.

I just ignored Auntie Amanda’s cold treatment of me and even Maricar’s insult.

I was planning to stay home for ten days but because of the cold feeling at the house and the cold they gave me, I decided to go into the hotel. Although I'm not really okay yet.

Lame, the eye bag was large and my eyes were almost swollen when I entered the hotel. “Good morning,” I greeted the other employees as I went inside our locker area but not enthusiastic as before.

"Someone sent it to you." My supervisor handed me a white envelope. I took it from her hand. It’s not a letter envelope, it looks like an invitation. “Open it then go outside. You can’t be late,” Supervisor Emma said before heading the door out.

I was forced to open the envelope. I’m not intrigued by opening it. Because right now, I am still in agony. My mind can’t function right but I don’t have any choice but to stay in the house. I started to open the big envelope, a card is inside there and started to read what it said.

[To Ms. Roberts, my condolences for your father’s death. But I am here to discuss some things. You have something that I am very interested in and I am willing to take the risk, just say whatever the exchange. My number is below, make a message or call me up. You can visit me in my office, on the last floor. -Trevor Hunters.]

I blink my eyes if I am reading it right. I read it again for the second time and still, nothing is changing.

What does he mean I have something he was interested in? And who is this Trevor Hunters?

Suddenly, the answer occurred to me.

Trevor Hunters, is the son of my boss. The future owner of the Hotel Hunters.

Maybe he can help me to end my misery. He will be the perfect Knight and shining armor to save a woman in distress like me. Why not use this certain man to make my man back in my arms again? I will do all my might whether I need to pay or give all my inheritance as long as Vincent will be back to me again.
