Chapter 16 Generosity

The amount of respect Edward Carrington’s presence commanded was clear. The tall man who had stepped out of the car effortlessly like the CEO’s I had seen in the movies created anxiety in everyone we met. Before we entered the tall building, I could hear sounds of movement but as soon as the door opened, everything went still. In that silence, one could have heard a pin drop. Everyone was in position. Edward said a hello here and there but mostly ignored the employees. We went to the executive elevator and I was relieved to be out of stare-range. I knew that everyone was probably wondering who I was. Or maybe they had recognized me as ‘long dress maid’ as the internet had resorted to calling me.

Edward never said anything the whole time. Cara came out of her office and started relaying information to Edward as we walked to his office.
