Chapter 4 Dormant Alpha

Trevor pov

"Do you think he is okay?"

"I don't know."

"What happened? Did he tell you anything?"

"No. He just….started to scream and suddenly fell."

The conversation between two people sounded distant, although the words were clear. I winced and groaned as I tried to remember what had happened. It was the night of her life ceremony. I was trying to mark her as my luna...but then….. I couldn't. I remembered how Boone didn't cooperate with me. He had blocked me and when I tried to force him out, the pressure was too much for my body to withstand.

I groaned again and moved my head to the side. At least my head wasn't hurting anymore. However, my eyelids felt too heavy.

"Oh, he is waking up."

A familiar voice said. That sounded like Tina, the love of my life. She must have been worried sick when I lost consciousness. After taking in a few breaths I managed to open my eyes. At first, I squinted. The light was too bright for my eyes, but they soon adjusted to the brightness.

The first person I wanted to see was Tina. As I had expected, she was standing beside me, running her fingers through my hair. One of her friends was in the room, to whom I suppose she was speaking when I woke up.

"Hey," I managed to croak despite my parched throat. Tina hastened to pour a glass of water for me. Smiling in satisfaction, I drank it. Natalie wouldn't have been so prompt in responding to my needs. Letting her go was the best decision of my life. If only Boone understood….

"It is so good to see you wake up, alpha," her friend stated and I nodded at her as a response.

"It feels good too," I chuckled.

Just then, the door to the room opened and my beta, Alan entered.

"Oh, he has woken up. How are you feeling now, dude?" He asked joyously.

"Better," I replied just as enthusiastically.

"What happened?" He asked, frowning as he placed both his hands on the mattress of the hospital bed and gazed right into my eyes.

"My wolf blocked me…. I don't know… he didn't cooperate." I replied honestly.

"So he didn't want to mark her as your luna?" He further inquired.

"He is crazy," I grumbled. "He wants Natalie. He doesn't understand that she left us all. That she had fled from her duties. He keeps saying that he wants her."

I shrugged, looking away from him.

"Does this mean our luna will remain unmarked?" He asked again, making me snap my head at him.

"No! I would do everything in my power to complete that ritual. I will mark her. I believe Boone would eventually give in. I won't stop trying until I succeed even if it means that I will have to try on the night of the full moon every month." I told them, and looked at Tina who's eyes seemed to be focused on Alan

"You are with me, aren't you, Ti?" I asked her in a soft voice and a bright smile spread across her face as she nodded enthusiastically.

After the doctor checked on me I was allowed to go home. However, there was no news from Boone. I shrugged it off and tried to focus on the pack work and my life with my chosen mate.

Days passed by with no news from my alpha wolf. Not even the slightest hint of his existence. Without my wolf, taking care of a pack of werewolves was hard. They demanded a lot of my time and at times I struggled to keep up.

Two extremely busy weeks passed by. As usual, I was in my office, trying to complete the tasks when a set of knocks interrupted my work. I looked up and glanced at the closed door of the office. To say that I was exhausted would be an understatement. I was overworked and about to collapse. However, being the alpha of a prestigious pack meant regardless of the situation, I had to get things done.

Sighing deeply, " come in," I called.

My eyes bulged out when the door opened and three elders walked inside. Their robes swayed as they strolled inside. They were the elders appointed by the alpha king who watched over the work of all the packs and reported to him. They must have heard about my case and come to meet me.

"Alpha Trevor. We have been very patient about your case. It isn't normal for an alpha wolf not to surface for two weeks." The highest elder spoke.

"We are here to scan through your mind. Our comrade here is a hybrid, part wizard and part werewolf. He would scan through the mind and see if your wolf responds." He added as he pointed at the youngest among them.

"Would you allow me to scan your mind, alpha?"

All I could do was nod. He took casual steps towards me and stood behind me. After laying his hands on either side of my head, he started to massage my temples.

"Close your eyes. Relax, alpha."

I was instructed.

As I closed my eyes and loosened up in my seat, I felt myself slipping into a deep trance. It was as if I was travelling through space until I came across a strong wall. A huge, black wall, as hard as steel. I tried to break through it, however, it was too strong. Climbing up was out of the question. The surface was slippery.

I remained hopeless at the wall. I knew I had to go through, however, it was impossible.

"It is too hard…." I grumbled as I attempted to push through. I didn't stop until my head started to throb like it did on the night of the luna ceremony. I tried to ignore it until I couldn't. I clenched fistfuls of hair and dropped on my eyes screaming.

"Aahhh….. I can't….make it stop!"

My eyes flung open and I realised that I was in my office. Two elders were gawking at me. I looked around to see the youngest one soaked in sweat. Gasping for breath he shook his head.

"I think his wolf has gone dormant."

I gaped at him in dismay. "No……" I gasped.

Days passed by. Nothing changed. Except for the fact that I have started to feel that Tina had started to get distant. However, I chose to ignore it, because I thought I might be mistaken.

It was another fine day. The elders paid a visit once again and I had a bad feeling about it. My beta and my chosen mate, Tina, were summoned to the office. I continued to take heavy breaths trying to control my heart.

"Alpha Trevor, with a heavy heart we are here to denounce you from your alpha position." His words made me feel as though the ground shook underneath.

"We waited, hoping your wolf would come back. But now we feel that we have waited long enough." He continued and glanced at my Beta.

"Alan, I think you are the best candidate to lead this pack now," his gaze shifted to me.

"Please don't take this gesture as disrespect. We don't feel that a non-shifter would be suitable to lead a pack of wolves." He paused.

"So, Alan, please accept this position and lead this pack in the future."

I sighed in defeat. However, I accepted that they were right. They wanted the best for the pack. Forcing a smile, I walked towards Alan and patted his shoulder.

"Congratulations, man. I'm sure that you will do a great job. Accept it and lead our pack towards success." I walked out of the office since I believed that there was no point in me staying there anymore.
