“Ouch…”
Vincent raised his hand to touch his slightly aching head, but Natalia didn’t give him the time.
"Get out," she cried as she continued to throw the fruits from the bowl. “How dare you come here? Dad, Margarette… where are you? How can you not see a stranger enter the house?”
“I am not a thief,” Vincent tried to erase her misunderstanding as he dodged her attacks.
“Vincent… are you serious? The most skilled warrior is dodging some fruits!” Gaius mocked.
It was only then that Vincent’s eyes directed to the apples, oranges, and pears lying on the floor around his feet.
“Not a thief! Then why are you sneaking around here?" Natalia grabbed the flower vase and raised her hand to throw it at him.
“Halt…” Vincent snarled.
His profound authoritative tone stalled Natalia once more. Her hand froze in the air. She was a bit frightened as she heard a low growl paired with his rumbling voice.
Natalia couldn’t figure out what exactly she heard. She was perplexed as to how a man could growl as if he was a ferocious animal. On top of that, the warning in his black eyes sent a shiver down her spine.
Who was this dangerous man? An assassin who came to kill the whole family!
No… she wouldn’t let anybody hurt her dear ones. She tossed the vase at him, pushing the dread out of her head.
Vincent, on the other hand, dashed towards her at breakneck speed and snatched the vase from her grip before she could release it. He was so fast that Natalia didn’t even get the time to blink.
He was a few feet away from her, standing beside the window. How could he get to her so fast? Before she could comprehend anything, he pinned her hands against the wall above her head, casting a lethal glare at her.
Natalia also leveled the stare with him, harboring the fear and anger in her heart.
"You should let other speak. I am not a thief,” Vincent declared vehemently before hurrying out.
Natalia gasped, placing her hand on her chest.
‘Not a thief! Who is he?’ She muttered as she glanced at the door.
As he exited the room, Vincent almost ran into Olivia. His annoyance increased a bit. He just escaped from a wild kitten, only to encounter another one.
Olivia’s pupils expanded as she gaped at him. She had rushed here after hearing Natalia cry, but she had not expected to see Vincent. She had been fantasizing about him all night, and now she was seeing him shirtless in front of her.
Was this a dream or a reality?
Olivia blinked twice and kept staring at him, tilting her head a little. She wanted to run her fingers over his powerful chest and feel his biceps. She also desired to feel his strong arms around her.
The thought of him taking her into his embrace made her blush. A timid smile slipped onto her lips involuntarily.
Vincent was a bit nervous under her seductive gaze. He felt somewhat vulnerable. It was as if he was standing naked in front of her. He wanted to go back to the room and wear his shirt, but he couldn't do it, thinking about that savage woman inside.
“Can you step aside?”
His deep voice made Olivia realize that she was not dreaming. She blinked once more, smiling profusely.
“You are here. How do you find my address?”
“Olivia…”
Natalia’s sharp voice made her flinch. The smile on her face wore off immediately. She directed her gaze to the source of the voice and saw Natalia in her black loungewear coming out of the guest room.
“Why are you doing in the guest room early in the morning?” Olivia inquired with astonishment. “Did you sleep here at night?”
Natalia tugged her arm and pulled her back without answering her query. She stood protectively in front of her, giving Vincent a death gaze.
“Why are you talking to a stranger? Where is dad? Dad…” She shouted, looking down at the foyer.
“Natalia…” Olivia grimaced, gnashing her teeth. She came forward and grunted, “He is not a stranger. He is the one who saved me and Dad that day. His name is Vincent… Vincent McNeil.”
The revelation was enough to silence Natalia. She wanted to call her father, but her voice died in her throat. Her eyes remained locked with his. She was stunned and embarrassed simultaneously.
She had just accused him of being a thief. But it turned out that he was Olivia's and her father's Savior. She struck him instead of expressing her gratitude.
Natalia's face flushed with embarrassment. But this moment didn’t last long. His lustful glance lingered in her mind.
She was thankful that he saved her family. But that didn't mean she had to trust him. This man can be a womanizer or a con artist. She needed to be cautious.
“Why are you silent? Wouldn't you like to express your gratitude to him?"
Olivia's question jolted her out of her stupor. Natalia opened her mouth to say something, but Margarette’s voice interrupted her, “What happened, ma’am? I heard you yelling.”
“Oh, that… it was a misunderstanding.” Natalia finally found her voice. “I got scared when I saw him in the guest room.”
She stole a glance at Vincent before smiling at Margarette.
“Oh…” Margarette laughed softly. “Sir has appointed Mr. McNeil as the family bodyguard. He is going to stay here from now on.”
“What?” Both Natalia and Olivia exclaimed in unison.
They had different kinds of expressions, though. While the shock prevailed over Natalia’s face, Olivia grinned joyfully.
“Yes...” Margarette answered with the same pleasure.
“So, my hero is going to stay here with us!” Olivia delightfully expressed her joy.
Vincent didn’t like so much attention. He was dying to get out of here.
As he turned to leave, he heard a sweet voice of a child, “Mummy…”
When he turned his gaze to the source of the voice, he noticed a young boy of around 4-5 years descending the stairs rubbing his eyes.
“Jonathan… you wake up on your own.” Natalia hurried towards him.
Vincent peered at Natalia and the little boy with astonishment.
‘Mummy!’ he mumbled in a state of stupor.
Natalia didn't appear to be the mother of a child from any angle.
"I heard you scream. Did the monster come to bully you again?”
Natalia’s heart trembled to hear it. She squatted in front of him and held his tiny hands, mustering a smile.
"No... I'm sorry to wake you up so early in the morning. Come on… Let mummy help you freshen up.”
She lifted him off his feet and went up to the second floor.
