Chapter 43

"Degree?"

Don't yield. Don't yield, Jassie.

"I-I never finished college."

She raised two eyebrows as if she was judging me and couldn't believe my answer. I just stared at my food but didn’t move. She's in front of me now, we're the only two here at the dinner table, Jaxon is at school, Louis is connecting with the other cops. So Madam Damila-- well, she's just in front. Eating with me. I have nothing to say, I don't know what she really wants to talk about.

"What did you say?" She put down her napkin. "You never finished your college? Oh my god, I can't believe Louis chose a woman like you."

I creased my forehead. Great, just great. She's just like Sandra, she was judging me like what Sandra Sineka did to me. I bit my lower lip, I did not lower my eyes, I did not bend my head down, I did not avoid her gaze. I just keep my eyes looking at her, trying to have courage as if I have something against her.

"I n-never finished my college, Ma'am."
