Chapter 31

DREW

Tavi and I decided to surprise our friend Grace and drove to her townhouse in Brooklyn, on a Saturday morning. Grace had just had a baby number three several months ago and we hadn’t seen much of her. She had also been having marital problems with her husband and she suspected she was suffering from postnatal depression. Our friend needed us. We had to be her support system.

She let us into the house, her blond hair was thrown back in a messy ponytail, highlighting her pale face, gaunt cheekbones and the dark circles beneath her eyes. Her nursing nightgown was stained with milk and reeking of baby puke.

“This is a nice surprise,” she patted her mop her throat, her hazel eyes darting around her surroundings. Tavi and I were dressed casually but she probably felt insecure. “Can I get you guys anything before my little monsters wake up?”
