Chapter 10 YOU ARE NOT GOING TO DIE

I quietly walk back to my room, disappoint by my father’s sudden change in behaviour towards me, he didn’t even mention anything about my studies. His unknown worries make me depressed.

I wonder, what dad is hiding.

Is it related to my marriage or something about Cyril’s health or maybe work? I keep guessing all the time but couldn’t come up with an accurate answer for his worries.

The night was spent with my thoughts still running wild and the day begins with my depressed mood. I walk down into the kitchen and find no one in the house. They all stayed at the hospital? How? And also why my parent has started to not inform me about anything now.

I look for my phone and as expected no calls at all.

I groan unhappily and then prepare my coffee, after gulping down the whole cup I feel better, and then thinking for a while I decide to visit the hospital on my own. After all, this won’t be an issue, and also it’s daytime so I have no worries.

I take a shower and put on my skin-fitted jeans, a top, and a jacket, after all, it’s getting cold day by day. Keeping my hair in a ponytail, I put a scarf over my head and then taking something for them to eat I am all ready to go.

I take a bus and go straight to the hospital, I walk inside the ward and greet my parents, “Mom, Dad.”

“Tessa…” My father shows a fit of unexpecting anger and then starts scolding me, “I have told you to stay at home, why you have come here?” He walks to me and quickly pulls me further into the ward as he quickly closes the door.

“Did anyone see you coming?” He asks, looking so weird.

“Dad, what do you mean? Why no one can see me? And what is wrong with me going out of the house?” I ask, irritated by his strange behaviour towards me.

“Tess, Dylan, what is wrong with you both?” My mother asks, and the wrinkles start to appear on her forehead. I look at my Dad and my father gives me a look as “Don’t say.”

“Nothing, mom. Dad is just being overprotective for me, no, Dad?” I lie and my father sighs in relief.

“Dylan, she is not a child anymore, she is going to get married soon and it’s ok if she has come here to see her brother,” My mother says wisely and my father nods, “Yeah, I know my Tessa has grown up now.”

“I’ll go and sign the papers for the discharge, Miss Swan has already cleared all Cyril’s bill.” My father says and then leaves the ward. I thank Miss Swan in my heart, she is such a generous woman.

“Mom, how’s Cyril, now?” I ask my mom as I look at Cyril who is sleeping soundly but thankfully the tube has been removed from his mouth now and he looks normal.

“He is fine, now, a bit weak though. We need to work hard to make him healthy again.” My mother says with a deep sigh as she touches my shoulder, I press her hand as I reply. “Yes, we will make him better.”

We wait until Cyril wakes up, Cyril greets me happily and then a look of guilty flashes in his eyes, Idiot, I should be the one feeling guilty now, not him.

“Sorry, sis, Did I make trouble for you?” He asks, and I want to tell him everything but not now as we are surrounded by our parents. I just shake my head and he seems to notice my hesitation as he nods in understanding.

My father has already called a cab and we all leave in it for our home. Finally, Cyril is home.

I am happy and relieved.

My father goes back to his work as I and my mother starts to take care of Cyril. After cooking lunch, my mother looks exhausted as I suggest to her to go and sleep.

“Please give Cyril medicine on time and also don’t forget to feed him the bowl of barley soup first.” My mother says as she yawns and I smile.

“Don’t worry, Mom. I will take care of everything, go and take a nap, first.” My mother tiredly goes back to her room while I fill the bowl with soup and walk towards Cyril’s room, I and Cyril need to discuss a lot of things.

When I enter, Cyril was writing something in his book, “You would be glad to know that I haven’t read it yet, not even in your absence.” I press the last words and he looks at me with narrow eyes.

“If you dare to read it.” He says and I laugh, “When am I going to read it, huh?” I ask as I sit beside him with a bowl of soup in my hand to feed him.

“After my death,” He mumbles under his breath and my face falls, “What nonsense, you are not going to die, not before me,” I tell him impulsively.

“You never know.” He says so calmly and it made me boil, “Shut up, and start eating.” I hand him the bowl of soup as I snatch the book from his hand, close it and then keep it aside.

Sensing my anger, he apologizes to me quickly, “Sorry, sis. I just can’t help it.” He shrugs innocently and there my heart seems to get melt. I sit beside him and sigh, “Please Cyril, stop thinking like this, we all are putting so much effort so that we can keep you healthy and safe. Stop saying this kind of thing. It’s depressing.” I tell him and he nods in agreement.

“I know you all are doing so much for me, I have troubled you all a lot.” He looks a little sad as he says that.

“Yeah too much,” I tease him and he looks at me with a shocked face, “At this moment, you are supposed to say that “We love you, Cyril, no matter how much you trouble us.” and I laugh out loud as I pinch his nose, “Such a cunning wolf, you have become.”

“And smooth too.” He says as he runs his hands through his long hair and I burst into another fit of laughter.

HAHAHAHAHA

“So sis, How was your meeting with Mr Andrew? Is he charming? Did he tell you that he loves you? Did he hold your hand? Did he treat you like a princess, just like you have always imagined in your fairytale?” As I am feeding Cyril the barley soup, he suddenly starts showering me with multiple questions and I fall into complete silence after hearing them.

Not that I have anything to say to him but I feel a little depressed by his questions because Andrew hasn’t even sent his greeting to me or apology.

Shouldn’t he call me once, he should have my number and even if not, he can ask for it from my father through Miss Swan, no?

Does that prove that Andrew isn’t interested in me? Is he ignoring me deliberately? So then, this marriage? Will he attend the marriage or ignore it too…

My mind starts going wild and then Cyril’s snap of fingers brings me back, “Sis, what are you thinking? Are you lost in Andrew’s thoughts?” He asks, teasing me but at this moment it didn’t feel funny to me as I stay quiet and look at him with a dull face.

“What’s wrong, sis?” Cyril asks getting serious and worried for me.

“He… He didn’t come, Cyril.” I tell him sadly.

There is a pause, a shock on his face, see, I also got shocked the same way and then the disappointment and anger.

“Sis, maybe he got busy, at least he didn’t refuse to take you to the store and let you buy the dress you want.” Cyril’s words suddenly light up my dull mood, I look at him in surprise and then blink my eyes.

BLINK… BLINK…

“His bodyguard told me that something came up at the last minute,” I tell Cyril and Cyril suddenly jumps from his place in excitement. “What? He keeps a bodyguard with him?”

He asks, excited and I roll my eyes, “He is a rich man, he can keep anyone with him as he please.” I tell him and Cyril looks astonished.

“So that means after marriage you will also have a bodyguard with you all the time?” He asks with a silly face and I want to laugh at him but I stifle my laughter and nod my head, “Maybe…”

“Whoosh… Sis, that is good that he is hiring someone to protect you. As you can see I am not in the state to save you now.” Cyril says childishly and this time I couldn't help and burst into laughter at his silly remarks.

If there’s anyone in the world who is as important as Andrew for me, it must be Cyril. And I hope everything will be OK as he wished.
