Chapter 5 Escape Plan...Failed

Since it was my first day on the job, Emily promised that she would drive for me and I gladly accepted her offer. As soon as the Honda civic car arrived in our driveway, I waved my mom goodbye and I got on inside her car.

“Hola, new coworker!” She brightens up, spreading her arms in a weird motion.

“Stop being weird and just drive.” I chuckled.

“Okay boss, geez! won’t hurt you to be friendlier!” And we drove off.

When we arrived at the place, my eyes sparkled in excitement as I saw the huge building in front of us. The thought that I was finally in my dream company made me more than excited. I can’t help but think of countless opportunities that might fall upon me and I knew that I’d be able to make my mom happier than I will ever be.

“Queen, are you gonna go out of the car, or do I need to lay down a red carpet for you?” Emily jokes, I didn’t even notice that we had already parked and she was outside of the car.

I nodded nervously in her way and walked beside her. We got inside and I felt my heart pace a little faster at how gorgeous the interior of the building looked. There were advanced gadgets everywhere, glass walls, and even glass monitors covered the hall.

But something was off. There was a group of people swarming around the lounge.

“Is this a normal occurrence too?” I asked.

“No.” She says in doubt, “It’s usually a quiet place, maybe another person died again?”

“Died!?”

“I mean, it happens often you know. Especially in big companies. Employees who couldn’t handle the workload just decide it on a whim, I guess? Let’s just ask them to make sure.”

We approached one of the women out of the crowd and asked why everyone looked frantic. We discovered that the old CEO of Cube had already passed away. She didn’t know the other details of how and why it happened but that wasn’t the main issue. The main topic that summoned everyone to the entrance of the lounge was because they were expecting someone.

Emily gasps, covering her mouth “What? Sir Hughes has a son? I thought he was a lonesome bachelor? Well… if I think about it, we can’t really trust what the media says. The Hughes group owns them so they probably hid it from us.”

The girl nods, “He also succeeded the Hughes group today. It’s all over the news. The new president would be coming today so we’re all curious.”

As usual, being so intrigued, Emily couldn’t stop herself so she also dragged me into the crowd. It was starting to get noisy, people were adding to the crowd that it made me anxious. Well..Not that I’m complaining, but wouldn’t i get in trouble if I were to be late on my first day? Just thinking about it made me nervous so i tried to plead to Emily to let me go.

I slapped her shoulder.

“I have to go!”

“No, everyone’s down here you know.” She rolls her eyes.

“You don’t know that!”

She gives me the ‘you’ve got to be kidding me’ look. I was confused at first as to why she was stopping me. But when she suddenly pulled a guy in his mid-40s, which I remember seeing on my interview was the Chief of the Marketing Department, I almost gasped in shock.

“Sir Remy!”

Sir Remy didn’t seem fazed that Emily pulled him towards us, it looked like they already knew each other. When Sir Remy saw the both of us, Emily was weirdly pointing her head in my way like she was signaling Sir Remy to do something.

“You two know each other?” I asked.

“She’s my niece.” Sir Remy laughed.

“Shut up. I told you not to say that to our coworkers!” Emily groans in frustration.

“Oopsie.” He laughs, “Who’s your friend? New face?”

He doesn’t remember me?

“This is Abby, she’s the newly hired Graphic Designer in your department. And currently, she’s insisting to go to the marketing department when all of her coworkers are down here.”

“Is that so?” Sir Remy jokingly crosses his arms. “No need for that newbie, everyone is expected to be here anyway. The directors just called us to gather around to welcome the new president. Even if you go to the elevator right now, people will just stop you.”

“See?” Emily grins.

I give up. I was never gonna win over Emily no matter the circumstance is. I mean how could I win over her when my supervisor is literally standing between us right now? I let out a sigh of disbelief and just waited for the new president to come like the others. The entrance that we were all looking at was different from the entrance that we workers usually take, it was at the center of the hall that it was easier to see.

We didn’t wait long though, when the door opened, we were all surprised to see such a young gentleman walk out of the door. For succeeding the Hughes group, isn’t he too young? He looks like about my age- Wait. My eyes squinted when I felt this bad feeling that he looked oddly familiar.

Perfectly chiseled nose, jaw, and his tall figure- all of a sudden. The images of the man I met at the nightclub last week flashed through my mind.

“No way.” I gasped.

“Oh my God. He looks so hot!” Emily squeals as all the other girls did.

I don’t what triggered the new president to turn our way, but I guess it was because of Emily’s loud freaking voice! In my case, my body was quick to react and I avoided his gaze immediately. I hurriedly went down to my knees and cursed endlessly, hoping that he didn’t see me. I had no time to debate over whether he could or not recognize me because he was drunk that night.

Whatever it is, I can’t be seen! I can’t let a possibility slip by!

I was crawling my way through the crowd. I didn’t care if they kick me or their knees hit me, I was determined to get away without being seen, my end goal was to reach the end of the crowd and escape, when all of a sudden, a clear pathway appeared in front of me.

Everyone started to circle around me.

My eyebrows furrowed. That’s weird, people were supposed to be crowding around here. It was when a pair of shoes stopped in front of me that i gasped in fear. The guy was wearing blue trousers like Raphael that I just saw a while ago.

Looking like a dog, I looked up and saw the gorgeous father of my baby.
