Chapter 54: Pleading

It was in the middle of the night when Zuri woke up from the warm embrace of Myuri. Worried about his condition, the older woman had tried all that she could to please and ease the young chief's worries. But with him not divulging what it is that was gnawing at his heart, how could the veteran attendant even begin to help? She could only sleep with him in his embrace, not knowing that her very actions intensified his guilt.

Silently and seemingly without alerting Myuri, Zuri left the hut. His destination was the towering tree of life, where his mind constantly lingers.
