Chapter 10: Is this a scene from hell?

So it is!

Bruce nodded.

No wonder he had only been in the army for four years and had been selected for the special operations group shortly thereafter.

Soon, he even became the captain of the ace team.

He used to think it was his father's connections and the power of money

Now it seems that it was his own strength that made it happen!

Thinking back to the enemies he had encountered before, they didn't seem to be that weak.

Although he completed every mission easily, Bruce didn't feel any sense of accomplishment.

He always thought that the other side was letting him win or that the leader deliberately assigned him simple tasks.

Looking back now, he couldn't help but sigh that he had misjudged them.

"Hoo...hoo...don't kick me away...I'll do anything...sob...sob..."

Bruce was reviewing his glorious record.

Lisa, on the other hand, was murmuring in her sleep.

She kicked her legs and tried to break free from the ropes that bound her.

As she struggled, she cried out, as if she had been wronged.

Although she had her eyes closed, tears still streamed down her face, forming small puddles on the plastic sheet.

"Please, big brother...don't kick me away...please...please..."

Lisa referred to Bruce as her big brother in her dream, not as her boss.

They say dreams are a projection of one's subconscious.

Perhaps Lisa always saw Bruce as a family member in her subconscious, rather than just a boss.

Maybe it was because she saw Bruce as a family member that Lisa worked so hard and didn't care about gains and losses.

No matter what happened, she always thought of Bruce's interests first.

It seems that when Bruce told Lisa during the day that she should go home, it had a huge impact on her.

It was something that was very insignificant to Bruce, but it turned out to be very important to Lisa.

She even dreamed about it.

"Shh! Don't worry, I won't chase you away! Stay by my side from now on!" Bruce suddenly softened.

He gently stroked Lisa's smooth cheeks, lightly patted her hair, and then untied the ropes that bound her.

Since mutation had already occurred, those who had not mutated naturally became the survivors that were chosen by natural selection.

There was no longer any threat to Bruce.

Once Bruce untied the ropes from Lisa's body, she immediately curled up like a cat that had been wronged, her whole body trembling as she sobbed softly, just like a baby in a mother's womb.

Bruce couldn't help but heave a heavy sigh at the pitiful sight before him.

It reminded him of his experience in the army.

Bruce had once saved a high school girl in war.

The girl's parents were killed by stray bullets during the war.

Every night, the girl was like this, only when Bruce hugged her from behind would she be relieved.

In the morning, she would forget the nightmare of the night before and smile like a child.

At night, she would fall into the nightmare again, and this cycle would continue.

Bruce lay down behind Lisa quietly, with one arm passing through under her neck and the other holding her shoulder.

After all, Bruce was also a human being, not just a killing machine.

For his teammates, brothers, and trusted companions who had been through life and death with him, Bruce was definitely a reliable big brother and a gentleman who kept his promises.

But for everyone else, especially those who dared to have ill intentions towards Bruce or those around him, Bruce was a demon lurking in the night, a ruthless and heartless executioner who would stop at nothing.

Sure enough, when Bruce hugged Lisa, she stopped sobbing immediately.

Her stiff body gradually relaxed, and even a faint smile appeared on the corner of her mouth.

Outside the RV was a battlefield of slaughter.

Countless zombies chased and ripped apart and devoured humans.

The survivors were running frantically, struggling to stay alive.

The sound of wailing, screaming, the cold and terrifying growls of zombies filled the air.

But inside the RV, it was warm and cozy.

Lisa's hand grasped Bruce's hand tightly, like a drowning person grabbing onto a last piece of drifting wood.

Suddenly, Lisa turned around and slowly opened her beautiful eyes.

The two locked gazes.

The RV's suspension performance is exceptional, especially when it's parked.

The four corners automatically extend support legs that touch the ground.

This way, no matter if there's dancing or any activity going on inside the RV, the vehicle won't shake, and from the outside, it's impossible to tell that there are people inside.

So, in the eyes of the zombies, the parked RV is no different from a large rock.

It has no attraction to them.

They chase after living people and run around the RV.

The RV's lights have a human sensing system.

It can intelligently perceive Bruce's activity level and adjust the brightness of the lights according to his heart rate.

At first, the lights were bright and glaring, but after a while, they gradually dimmed, went out, and the music also became quieter, eventually stopping altogether.

Probably due to the driving yesterday and the bumpy road, Lisa's physical exhaustion was very high.

The next day, when Lisa opened her beautiful eyes and stretched lazily, it was already bright outside.

The sun shone through the RV's window, warm and cozy.

"Time to eat, lazybones!"

Bruce sat at the table, lightly tapping the cup with a spoon.

"You, of all people, got up later than me and still need me to make breakfast for you!"

Lisa stuck out her tongue apologetically.

She quickly climbed out of bed, but as soon as her feet touched the ground, she realized that she hadn't fully recovered her strength.

Her legs went weak, and she almost fell.

Fortunately, she grabbed the RV's wall and slowly walked over.

Lisa smiled slightly apologetically, her eyes full of affection.

"Boss, I'll pay more attention next time~"

"Don't call me boss anymore.

I'm not the boss anymore.

Just call me Bruce or brother, either is fine!"

Bruce looked out the window, somewhat absentmindedly.

"Okay, brother!"

Lisa's face turned red.

She liked calling Bruce by that name, and she was willing to do anything just to stay by his side.

Lisa took a bite of the sunny-side-up egg, feeling delighted.

This was the breakfast that Bruce had made for her! Although it was also a sunny-side-up egg, this breakfast tasted better than anything a Michelin-starred chef could make! So delicious~ Lisa ate breakfast hungrily.

She also stole glances at Bruce's handsome face from the corner of her eye.

Suddenly, her expression froze.

She followed Bruce's gaze and saw the scene outside the window at the service area.

Today is the first day of the apocalypse.

Yesterday was still a peaceful world, with a booming scene.

But today everything has changed.

The entire service area is empty, with no one in sight.

It seems that a fierce battle took place here last night.

The ground was covered in blood.

Four or five cars collided in the parking lot, with the middle car even being crushed and a tire scattered on the ground.

The blood flowing from the cars formed small streams, eventually converging at the edge of the blocked drain.

At the entrance of the drain, a small dog's body was missing and only its mind remained, clogging the drain.

"What happened?" Lisa's face turned pale with fear.

Any normal person would have the same expression upon seeing such a scene.

Bruce had anticipated this and raised his hand to play the recording of last night's television program.

He then briefly explained the current situation to Lisa.

The latter sat in shock for a long time before finally accepting the fact that the apocalypse had arrived.

She never thought that the zombie outbreak, something that only existed in movies, would actually happen in the real world! Everything happened so suddenly, without any warning.
