Wilderness Part 3

I hastened with a stone and a hook. Its head turned to me. Its growl sent shivers down my spine, but I never stopped. I swung the hook, hammering it into the rock. With swift strength, I pulled myself up. My legs were lifted off the ground. This filled me with hope, exhilarating me, relieving my anxiety, and before I knew what was happening, I was under the ledge that held it.

The roar of the ferocious beast caught me off guard as it started thrashing its limbs throughout the air. The ones on the ground thrashed about, sweeping away at anything that was in its path. I swayed, trying to dodge the swipes at my leg. I took the same rock that I used to hammer the hooks in that I was still using and threw it at the golden egg. I expected it to shatter, but the rock melted into it and the egg burned with an amazing glow.

I wasn't sure what I expected to see, but I never expected this large beam of light toward the head of the beast. It shrieked. Horrified, I held my hands over my ears, my eyes wide as the beast disintegrated. Holes seemed to appear all over its body, with a beam of gold shining through each of them. The gold seemed to eat away at the beast, melting it down until it disappeared as though it had never existed.

Everything happened so quickly, I heard and felt my heart beating roughly at my chest, shaking my entire body. What in the world just happened? I felt my heartbeat in my head. I needed to take a breather, but before me stood my goal, at the top of the purple mountain. Still several feet before me since the monster had taken up more space, but reachable now, unobstructed.

But to tell the truth, I was feeling drained now; I didn't have any energy left inside of me to speed up time again. It appeared the magic of the nice tasting grass and purple rain had faded. I fell backward on the ground, my body shaking, thirsty, and fatigued. I couldn't stop here. I couldn't give up now. It was just a few feet more until I was where I needed to be.

It had been too far for me right now. I'm not alone. It felt like my ancestors were with me. I wasn't sure if I use up all the luck, I had that brought me the help I got so far, but even if I did, nothing was going to prevent me from taking the next steps I would need to take to bridge the distance. I didn't care if I had to pull my body across the ground; I was going to do it.

So slowly, I brought myself to my feet again. Come on body, don't give out on me now.

I mumbled under my haggled breath. "I know you just had a shock, but you don't have to do this any longer. Before you know it, your life will have ended. You're either going to die trying or die when you get there, but you will not stop now."

I pulled my feet forward, uncaring of my head that was now pounding as my body begged for time to recover from the shock and for rest from my now rapidly dying human cells.

Nothing was impossible for me to achieve right at this moment, knowing that my time was running out, knowing everything that I already accomplished, I was going to plant this flower even if it killed me. Literally, I smiled through the pain as I approached the top of the purple mountain.
