The altered

An unknown amount of time had passed in her solitude. During this period, the girl had enough time to dwell on these moments. She thought about it constantly, reflecting on the magnitude of her actions. She coldly thought back on the deaths of two people, or at least if they could be called that.

The scene was perfectly clear in her mind, she had time to think about it. At first, the girl refused to remember it, because every time she thought about it, she couldn't help but vomit and shiver. However, after some time, after forcing herself to remember, the girl could replay this memory countless times without any reaction.

The girl didn't know what to think of herself, she had no remorse. She didn't even feel guilty for committing such an act. For her, at that moment, it was like a natural reaction to take; she was attacked, so she had to defend herself.

But still... What had she become? How had her mind become so twisted? Was it due to that wicked experience? Had it altered her to this extent?

The girl didn't know.

Letting out a sigh, she remained silent for a few moments. Then, after several more silent sighs, her thoughts turned to what had happened next. Just after the girl had killed her attackers, she sensed a human silhouette. This person emanated white energy. As she thought back, the girl asked herself so many questions.

Who was that? Why did that person have white energy? Was it even a person or...? And what had she done? Was it some kind of Esper ability?

And a multitude of questions still remained in her mind. Several hypotheses had formed in her mind, but she had nothing to confirm them. She had to wait, knowing that she would certainly get the answers to her questions.

Some time later, as the girl was training to control her energy as usual, a voice thundered, breaking the silence of her white prison.

— Hello dear altered one, how are you today? — The voice asked.

It had been a while since the scientists had spoken to her. This silence was so pleasant, yet today she heard an annoying voice coming from the intercoms again. The girl didn't even move, she didn't seem interested.

— Your enthusiasm is welcome, for today we have a big announcement to make to you. So, your cooperation is expected. But first, we must take certain measures. — The voice said with a slight mocking tone, almost imperceptible.

And then the girl heard a beep from her collar again.

Soon, the world in front of her eyes began to spin. Her mind became clouded. And the girl lost consciousness.

...

— Urgh! The girl groaned as she got up.

Then she checked herself to see if she was hurt. She noticed a black bracelet around her right wrist with an embedded screen. The girl tried to interact with it, but nothing happened. She didn't remember having this bracelet before she arrived there, so it seems it was put on her while she was unconscious. She tried to remove it, but without success. Like the collar around her neck, the bracelet wouldn't budge. With a slight sigh, the girl moved on.

Looking around, she saw the same white-walled cubic room that could disrupt someone's spatial perception due to its structure. And, like the last time, she had to find a way out of this place. She got up, feeling the walls to find a door that could be completely unnoticed. The girl checked her surroundings, and as she walked, the walls suddenly began to ripple and move, revealing an opening.

Hesitating for a moment, the girl finally decided to move toward the opening.

After a slight flash of light, she arrived in a huge room with snow-white walls.

As she checked her surroundings, she noticed something in her peripheral vision. The girl turned her head and saw that she wasn't alone. She could see people like her, not hideous abominations, emerging from the immaculate rooms.

The girl was surprised and wondered who they were.

A few moments later, thanks to her special vision, she got an idea of their identity. Indeed, under her bright milky eyes, the girl noticed an interesting fact.

— Again... them too!? — The girl thought, noticing that all the people in this room, without exception, had white energy.

However, after approaching them for a moment, she saw that their energy was slightly different from hers. Inside these people, the girl could see white energy, although theirs seemed slightly duller. And this was mixed with some other energy of a bluish color. Moreover, this seemed far more significant than the white energy.

The girl didn't know what it meant, but decided to find out later.

Finally, while she was looking at the others who had realized the situation, she saw several expressions appearing on their faces: joy, relief, astonishment, fear... Soon, everyone began to ask all kinds of questions :

— Where am I? someone asked.

— W-Who are you? said another.

— Are those... those scary things going to appear again!? whispered a girl, holding her head and trembling with fear.

While some were in turmoil, others like her were completely impassive, or almost. The girl knew that asking all these questions was useless. Because anyway, the scientists had gathered them here for a good reason and were certainly going to make an announcement.

The next moment, as she suspected, several holographic silhouettes appeared. There was the old man with a monocle, Professor Unity, the slender red-haired woman, Professor Heren, a tall man with chocolate skin wearing black glasses, Professor Onda, as well as the scientist with black hair, empty eyes, and unkempt hair - in short, a neglected appearance, it was Professor Craeven.

— Hello, dear subjects! Judging by your expressions, I'm certain that you have many questions,— Professor Unity declared, taking a slight pause, his hologram fixing on the subjects. — Well, we're going to explain the reason for your presence here. As you all know, you underwent Alteration, a genetic modification experiment that allowed you, normal and pathetic people, to become Espers, Altered, extraordinary people.

— We have endowed you with these abilities, with these powers. We have taken you out of the pitiful state in which you were. You were nothing but society's waste, waste that the world had already rejected — Professor Heren added, looking at all the young people gathered here.

— Yet, you are now the 'Children of Neo' — continued Professor Craeven.

— Forget your past life, no matter how miserable it was. Today, you are born anew. You are now the Kainos, the pioneers of the new era. The era of the Altered.

— Serve the Organization, serve NEO ! For the evolution of humanity, Yall Dim Aizmer!— Professor Onda concluded.
