Threatened

Storm's POV

"Why are you staring at that Omega?" Theo nudged me.

"What do you mean?" I narrowed my eyes at him.

"You keep staring at that cute Omega. Tell me, do you have a crush on him?" Theo wriggled his brows at me.

I scoffed.

"There is nothing like that. I'm just wondering why he seemed so different from us." I placed a hand under my jaw. "The expression on his face seemed so otherworldly. He looked like he doesn't belong here with us."

"And you know that just by looking at him?" Theo scoffed.

"You can think what you wished," I shrugged.

it is unclear to me why I think the Omega is different from the others.

There is this glow with him that made him seem so different from the other Omegas.

I can't pinpoint what exactly that was, but I feel it deep within me. And it made me eager to know why he seemed so different.

That was why I had my focus on his table. Even if it was farther from mine, my eyes still found him.

Not even the other students, could take my eyes off him, as I tried to figure him out.

I grew up, surrounded by Omegas. Yet, I've not seen one with as much fire in the eyes as him.

Most of the time, he looked like he can take me on should the situation call for it.

"You are still staring hard at him. If you like him, why don't you approach him? Stop acting like a stuck-up, Alpha. He's just an Omega. He can't fight against you if you go for it."

I pursed my lips at my friend. "If I didn't—"

"Storm."

Mara, whom I grew up with, approached my table. She sat down next to me without waiting for my permission to do so.

"What's it?" I narrowed my eyes at her.

"You don't have to be hostile with me. We are getting married in the Future. You need to learn how to speak with your Luna." She crossed her legs and raised her chin.

I gritted my teeth at the sight of the Omega I was betrothed to when she was born.

Growing up, I wanted nothing more but to run away from all family problems, but it seemed the more I tried to run from them, the more eager they were, to clung to my body like a second skin.

"Why? You don't seem that happy to see me." She pursed her lips and placed her palm on my table.

Theo didn't say a word as he watched us.

He knew who she was, and how much I hated her.

"Why are you here?" I folded my arms and watched her. "Didn't I tell you not to approach me in school?"

She rolled her eyes at me. "As much as I would have loved to converse with you, I can't keep your parents waiting."

"What? My parents are here? What are they doing?" I widened my eyes at the thought of what my family came over to do.

"I don't know," Mara shrugged. "They asked me to call for you." She rose from the chair. "Don't keep them waiting." She winked at me before she rose from the chair and left the cafeteria.

"I don't like her," Theo grumbled under his breath as he watched the door.

"Beats me." I rose from my chair. "Don't wait up for me. I might be gone for long." I slung my bag behind me and hastened out of the cafeteria.

At the last minute, I turned towards the Omega's table, only to see him speaking with a Beta…

I glowered at the sight.

What's he doing with a Beta?

I tried to act like it didn't concern me, yet, my mind doesn't seem to wish to let it slide...

*****

My parents were at the rose garden behind the Alphas' dorm when I met with them.

My mother was putting on her signature black gown, while my dad wore his red suit. They looked like people going for a mourning ceremony.

"Took you long, didn't it?" My dad checked the time on his wristwatch.

"I apologize for that. When Mara informed me of your arrival, I was having my lunch." I joined my hands together and peered up at them.

"Your food is more important than your family?" My mum snapped at me.

"No."

"What do I hear about you treating Mara like an outsider?" My father suddenly asked.

Goddess.

I should have known this was the reason they came here.

My parents weren't your typical parents who come to visit their kids in school because they missed them.

No.

Whenever my parents show up, there must be a reason for it.

I guess Mara ran to them with tears in her eyes, to complain about the rules I set between us.

TSK.

She's just like a child throwing tantrums because she didn't get the toys she asked for.

"I'm not treating her like an outsider." I folded my arms.

"She's your fiancée, and yet you asked her to pretend as if you are strangers? Was that how I trained you?" My father took a threatening step towards me.

"I wanted to have a school life. Can't I have that?" I furrowed my brows at him. "I never asked to be betrothed—"

"To hell with what you asked for, son." My father glared at me. "Are you trying to rebel against me now that you are in school? Do you think you are untouchable?"

I frowned but didn't say a word.

"You have to treat Mara with the utmost care." My father took more steps towards me until he was staring at me nose to nose. "You will do what you are asked of, Storm." He gritted his teeth. "If you don't....." He trailed off with a smirk.

"You don't need to touch her. I will do as you asked." I took a deep, steady breath, to calm my nerves.

I've gotten used to my parents' domineering nature, but most of the time, I feel like breaking forth from their chains. But I know that I have to be patient until I complete school.

When I start working and can provide for myself, I will take Nata away from them before they kill her.

"Good to know." My father stepped back. "Should Mara call us on the phone again, we will send a surprise to you." He turned to my mum, "Let's go, honey."

I stood back and watched my parents leave without bidding me farewell.

And, not for the first time, I wondered if they were truly my parents.

I can't think of a time when they ever treated me with care. My nanny was the only one who showed me what warmth meant, but my father had her killed when I was just 7.

And since then, I've gotten used to the dispassion.
