A wrong action

"What?" I took a step back, shocked by his words. "What do you mean?"

"I…" He ran a hand through his hair once more, looking distraught. "I… Just … I…" He took a deep, steady breath before he finally stared into my eyes. "I love you, Brys," he whispered, looking both bold and nervous.

"Love?" I scoffed.

"Do you even know what love is?" I raised a brow at him. Seems like this Alpha needs to be slapped on the head before he understands what it means to love someone.

"Of course, I do. I love you, Brys." He sighed, "I know we haven't known each other for a long time. And it's unlikely for there to be any romance between us." He stared down the corridor before he turned to face me, "I don't know when it started, but I know deep down that I like you —love even."

My heart soared at his words, but a single thought made me frown. This was how he was able to ensnare the last host. He doesn't love me. He's only trying to complete the story.
