Bandits and Wolves

In the afternoon, Gordon departed the walls on a car pulled by a couple of oxen. With him was a clerk and two warriors donning vests made of layers of hide for protection. Of course, the old magistrate himself wore the latest protective clothing, hiding thin steel sheets in between the layers of cloth, shielding his core from cuts and penetrative missiles like arrows. Not the least, his pointed hat had thin steel sheets laminated in the brim.

Although the protective elements of the clothing added some weight, Linus insisted that the old magistrate wear them. It made the clothes a little uncomfortable, but Gordon didn't mind it even for his age. He was touched to hear how much the young Deputy cared for him that it made his eyes water. Yet the lad didn't want to take full credit for it, he claimed that some of it was Nina's idea, wishing his uncle and everyone success in the negotiations.
