Chapter 9: Elder Wei

Wudi made his way to the line after greeting many junior disciples who would be joining the academy. Not far from Wudi, Shuang Hua was staring in his direction, contemplating his earlier move and intent. Many of the new disciples watching the fight wouldn't know, but the intent Ji Xuanming released earlier was called the Fiery Blood Rage. It relied heavily on one's fire and blood insight and was one of the harder intents recorded in the institution, requiring a red fire ginseng of considerable age to comprehend, and even then, the odds were low.

Shuang Hua wasn't sure what great fortune Wudi ran into to comprehend his intent, but it wasn't one she had seen recorded in the academy. The dao was vast, and every element and dao had a different interpretation from person to person, so one could be stronger or weaker when using the same intent as someone else. It all depended on one's comprehension and insight into the dao.

Shuang Hua wasn't a noble, but she was rather knowledgeable and had never seen an intent like Wudi's before. It seemed to encompass light and darkness on top of a tyrannical feeling as well. She couldn't forget the sensation of his fist being the only thing in existence, despite its underwhelming aura and technique. She knew that Wudi would definitely be approached by the academy for his intent and have him record his experience and how to comprehend it.

It was extremely rare for people to comprehend their own intent, and anytime someone did, they'd be asked to record their knowledge for future generations and would be rewarded greatly. Pulling herself from her thoughts, she felt it was foolish to overthink things.

The intent she was comprehending had nothing to do with Wudi, and they clearly weren't comprehending an even remotely related intent. She still looked at Wudi oddly, wondering why she put so much thought into him. Shaking her head, she began to walk away. Wudi, not knowing or even caring about the thoughts going through others' heads, made his way toward registration.

It was then that an elder with white beard and scholarly appearance appeared. He had an amicable smile and stepped right in front of Wudi. Wudi stopped and bowed, saying "Elder Wei". Wei Cheng waved his hand and said, "No need for formalities with me, Wudi. I've already taken care of your registration for the year. Why not follow me for a chat?" Wudi nodded lightly and followed closely behind, knowing what Elder Wei was likely there for and wasn't surprised.

Elder Wei eventually made it to a large hall with many passages leading to different areas. Signs on the passageways would say things like Alchemy, Smithing, Inscriptions, Martial Library, and so forth. The academy had three halls, and one of them was the Depositary Hall. This is where one would go to learn different skills and acquire techniques for intents or elements. It essentially held all of the knowledge in the academy, and Elder Wei was an Elder for the Martial Library. He had clearly come to Wudi looking for Wudi to record his intent and how to cultivate it. Wudi only laughed on the inside at this.

The lightning that had struck Wudi before was where he had cultivated some of the elements from. Tribulation lightning could have more than one element, and the one that hit Wudi had too many to count. When he sent the lightning into his hand previously, he used his comprehension and dao bone to feel the different Qi's within.

So unless someone wanted to be hit by lightning, it would be very difficult to comprehend his intent. Wudi wasn't even aware of any herbs for cultivation that had the properties of light and darkness, so how could he give a good explanation on how to learn it? The academy wouldn't believe that Wudi was actually hit by tribulation lightning and survived, let alone that he was able to comprehend his intent from it. He could, however, put some blame on his dao bone.

It didn't take long for the duo to reach one of the martial library's private rooms. Elder Wei gestured to a seat and Wudi sat down opposite of him, then turned and asked one of the attendants to bring some tea. Elder Wei smiled brightly and said, "I'm sure you can guess why I brought you here?" Wudi, with a light smile, said, "Of course," but then frowned and continued, "but I'm not sure if Elder Wei will like what I have to say."

Elder Wei slightly dropped his smile and looked at Wudi confused, "You don't wish to record your intent with the academy? You should know that the benefits can get you far, and you can still give the recording to the empire as well." Wudi shook his head and said, "It's not that I don't wish to record it, but I just simply don't have a way to teach others. My comprehension of light and darkness comes from my dao bone, and I didn't take a supplement to learn the intent."

Elder Wei had a shocked face and said, "Your fist definitely encompasses light but not darkness. You would have to have done something, and I can definitely sense another element involved in your intent." Elder Wei wasn't at the fight to see Wudi use his intent, but Wudi had only just learned it and hadn't been able to fully suppress his intent.

Wudi sighed and said, "If I said I was hit by tribulation lightning and comprehended some of the elements within, would you believe me?" Elder Wei's mouth hung open and said, "If that's truly the case, then we can only record it. This knowledge is actually extremely valuable if true." Elder Wei had a serious look and even seemed slightly excited.

Wudi was still confused and said, "Elder Wei, I don't understand why this information is so important. Others won't be able to accomplish the same feat." However, Elder Wei was smiling like a fool now, and he continued, "You don't understand because you're not at that level yet. Also, you were able to do it, which means it could happen again. Even if it takes a thousand years, why would it matter? If you, by chance, become extremely powerful, then this info will be huge."

Now that Wudi understood the implications involved, he almost had the urge to slam his head on the table for being so dumb. The head of the academy, who had an unfathomable cultivation, also had a recording here, and no one had ever been able to accomplish the same feat and comprehend the knowledge the head wrote down. But others knew that once someone finally accomplished the same feat, they'd be a super genius with lots of potential. Realizing this, the academy clearly wanted him to be like the academy head.

Wudi immediately began recounting his experience to Elder Wei as he jotted it down. Of course, he left out his life on earth.
