Happiness in the moment

"Di-Hee, are you ready? We are running late." Mrs Kim asked from the kitchen as Di-Hee descended the stairs in haste.

"Ready, Mom," Di-Hee said from behind Mrs Kim. They both went towards the car and locked the door of the house.

"The wife must send her husband to work with a lunch box full of delicious, freshly prepared food. And now that you've begun staying at home more regularly, why not do it more frequently?" Mrs said as she keyed the car and adjusted the seatbelt around her.

"I'll try to do it, Mom."

"No! Make it a habit from today itself. For today, he forgot to take the lunch box. From tomorrow, try to remind him to take it."

"I will."

---------

"Lietutant In, your wife's here to see you." One of the officers said as he went back to his desk.

Guk-Du stood up and went towards the visiting area to see Di-Hee. She stood there with the lunch box in her hands.

She was looking around when Guk-Du tapped her shoulder. "Your lunch!" She exclaimed in a slow voice before he got to open his mouth.

"Oh! I seem to forget it." He took the box in his hand and looked at her as if seeing her for the first time.

"What?" Di-Hee asked as the unwavering gaze of Guk-Du sent waves of shyness over her.

"Nothing, go home safe. And take eat well." He said as Di-Hee nodded. Bidding goodbyes, both turned around to walk their way.

But before Guk-Du could step up the staircase, the people around started to make a commotion. He turned to see the crowd gathered around someone. He handed his lunch to the junior beside him.

"Make space, please. Let the police handle it." Guk-Du said as he made his way to the centre.

His heartbeats turned wild as he saw his wife unconscious on the floor. He picked her up in a bridal way as he and a few juniors made their way to the car to take her to the hospital.

----------

"Sir, mam is going to be okay. Calm down. Here, take some water." A junior said as the other forwarded the bottle.

Just as Guk-Du chunked the bottle down his throat, the doctor emerged from behind the curtains of the open ward.

"There is no need to worry. Both of them are safe." The doctor said with a bright smile.

"But I just bought my wife here. No one else." Guk-Du said with confusion stirring in his mind. His subordinates from behind smiled, taking the hint - almost jumping on Guk-Du.

"Perhaps you didn't know. But you need to take extra care of your wife. These times are crucial for both her and her baby. Congratulations, Mr In, your wife is pregnant." The doctor said with an even bigger smile on her face.

"Can I see her?" His eyes watered as his hands trembled with happiness. The doctor stepped aside to let him meet her.

Guk-Du rushed towards the place where Di-Hee was kept. As he entered behind the curtains, Di-Hee was trying to get up. It looked like she just woke up. Guk-Du supported her to sit up straight.

"What happened? My head hurts." Her voice was evident that the fall had an impact on her.

"Don't stress. Easy, just relax."

"What happened to you now? Just tell me." Frustration took over Di-Hee as she saw Guk-Du's hand gestures going up and down.

Without a word, he hugged her, tight enough to not stress her. Tears of joy spilt out from the corner of his eyes. Di-Hee was not expecting anything like this and lightly hugged him back.

"I am not going anywhere now, I promise." She said thinking that her health might be the reason for the sudden behavioural change. Considering the previous incidents, a gush of fear took over her.

"Thank you so much for coming into my life. I don't know where I would have been without you. Thank you for being the mother of our children." Guk-Du said slowly, still hugging her.

Di-Hee took her time to digest the served information. Not believing her ears, she screamed, with delight, tightly hugged the clingy man already embracing her.

"I cannot believe my ears. Am I going to become a mother? Of our children?" Di-Hee asked in haste as she wiped the pleasure spills from her cheeks.

"I have so much preparations to do. I cannot waste any more time." She hurriedly got off the bed and was ready to wear her slippers.
