"Why would Li Tingguang entrust this to you?"

The gravity of the question was not lost on Yi Tian; he understood the potential repercussions of an incorrect response. A single misstep could evoke suspicion and cause further complications. Therefore, he pondered his answer with great deliberation.

Yi Chang's gaze remained fixed on his son, observing his calm and thoughtful expression devoid of worry or fear. After a brief period, Yi Tian articulated his response, and Yi Chang lent him his undivided attention.

"I have become close with his son. I believe this is why he entrusted this to me," Yi Tian responded, his tone laced with a mix of certainty and doubt.

"Hm." Yi Chang averted his gaze from Yi Tian and directed it towards the serene vista of the garden. His son's assertion held truth; he was aware of the frequent meetings and camaraderie between Yi Tian and Li Wei. Nevertheless, Yi Chang found himself discontent with this response, yet he found no trace of deceit in his son's eyes or demeanor.

Yi Tian patiently observed his father for several moments as he gazed into the tranquil garden. The harmonious melody of the chirping crickets and the babbling brook formed a serene backdrop, but his mind was too engrossed in the present situation to appreciate it. With a soft rustle, Yi Chang gradually rose to his feet and ambled to the edge of the pavilion, gripping the wooden railing.

"Yi Tian," Yi Chang called out softly, his gaze reflecting off the dark waters of the pond.

Responding to his father's call, Yi Tian arose and approached him, stopping a few steps behind. "Yes, Father?" he responded, his voice echoing his father's solemn tone.

Yi Chang pivoted, his gaze locking with Yi Tian's. The flickering light from the patio lantern painted an even sterner expression on his face. His voice, cold and resolute, cut through the night. "I am aware of your actions, the information you leaked about Yi Ming's whereabouts to the Shadow Lotus Assassins. It is your betrayal that resulted in his injury during the recent treasure expedition."

A deep silence unfurled from Yi Chang, transforming the nocturnal symphony into an eerie quiet. The playful whispers of the brook seemed to freeze under the icy tone of his words, and at the heart of this frosty silence stood Yi Tian.

In his previous life, Yi Tian was not a man easily daunted. He was not one to shrink back in the face of others, irrespective of their status or power. In his eyes, all beings were equal, each navigating their unique struggles and challenges. Looking at Yi Chang's icy demeanor, he did not see him as a father - for he was not - but as a man grappling with a perplexing situation. Therefore, he felt no fear and responded truthfully, even if his words could incite anger or suspicion.

Bringing his hands together in a formal gesture of respect, Yi Tian matched his father's gaze, his voice steady and calm. "Father, I am a changed man now. I implore you to grant me another opportunity."
