"Anyway, Huknock," Maxie says, getting back into the party mood, "it's great that you came! There's no better way of getting to know a new town than all being thrown together in one house. I'm sure there's some people here you already know from the meeting—and now that I think of it, I know for a fact there are a few folks here who knew your grandmother. I'd be happy to introduce you, if you'd like."
"Oh, and speaking of the meeting," Zoe tells you, "I was just talking to a young man who works up at Twin Ranch. According to him, there's some funny stuff going on outside of town—and especially around Alberobello Forest. I wouldn't be surprised if it's got something to do with these development plans we've heard so much about. Since you came along to the meeting last night, Huknock, I wonder if you'd be interested?"
You look between the two of them, suddenly presented with more information than you know what to do with. The idea of meeting some people who knew your grandma is very tempting—she's always been so secretive—but at the first mention of the forest, your breath catches in your throat. At the same time, you remember Tobias signaling to you as he left, and you think about how he might be waiting for you to come out and meet him right now. After all, when you met him in town, it seemed like he was asking you to come just so he would have someone to keep him company. You hesitate, feeling conflicted.
Who do you want to spend time with?
