The First Day -2

The testing finished and all the new students were assigned to their classes. As I expected, I got put into the school's lowest class. D.

Everyone in the classroom had their eyes on me as went to take our seats, each of them wearing that plain white uniform with me wearing the added blue. It was at that moment I realized that my uniform signified a noble status as none of them dared to approach me. Not like it mattered to me, they were kids at the end of the day, so taking my seat I waited for class to begin, not minding the stares from the other students.

It seemed like age wasn't a determining factor when assigned a class but was strictly based off of your magical prowess. However this school did have a minimum and maximum age range of 5-13 for safety reasons I assume. The school was divided with 5-7 year old students in 1 class according to their rating; 8-10's in another, with 11-13's in another. My class was named '1D'.

?: "Good morning everyone, my name is Gerald I'll be your teacher for this year. Nice to meet you all"

The person who entered the room was none other than our teacher. He looked quite young, like in his mid 20's similar to Alice as he suddenly looked my way.

Gerald: "Seems like we have a guest here today, may I ask for your name young lady?"

He bowed his head while saying that in my direction. The seats were in rows and the ones behind others were elevated so that everyone could see on the blackboard. I chose my spot in the front corner by the window.

Gerald waiting for a response, so with a begrudgingly gesture I sit up.

Ellen: "I am not a guest but a student, please treat me as you would like any other student here thank you. My name is Ellen von Leinhart."

Hearing the name 'Leinhart' the students around me started whispering to one another, causing quite a commotion amongst themselves before the teacher spoke up.

Gerald: "My apologies Miss Leinhart. Now would the rest of you students here would like to introduce themselves?"

I feel so out of place. Not only was I a noble in a room filled with commoners who seemed to have alienated me, but even worse is that they are all toddlers to me. I'll just have to put up with this for a few years and try and learn what I can.

After the students finished introducing themselves we all faced towards the teacher as we awaited our next instructions. I didn't pay attention to any of the names of my classmates, as they all continued to give me side glances as if they were trying to act like they were not looking at me.

Gerald: "With introductions done, lets all head to the training area, I'd like to see your guys' abilities to get to know where everyone is at"

Oh god... I'm about to be humiliated in front of all my classmates.

We make out way to the training area. Each age group having their own separate areas as our class had the first slot available for this training area. It was outside, and looked like a backyard, surrounded by walls.

Gerald: "Now then, Ellen. Would you like to go first?"

I... had no idea what to do. Sure I had just discovered that I do have magic if only the tiniest amount, but I still can't even make anything! However, with my stress building up inside me, I make my way to the spot light facing the teacher.

Gerald: "It's okay, this place is secure. You won't be able to destroy anything here that easily"

That wasn't the reason why I was stressed but never mind that, what in the fuck am I supposed to do? I thought we would be learning magic not coming out here to present already! I try to calm myself down as I close my eyes, focusing all my strength and mind to try and bring out what little mana I had inside me, reaching out my right hand trying to conjure up anything. A flame, water ball, rock, or maybe even a gust of wind.

A few moments pass as I continue to try my hardest, sweat starting to build up on my face as I try not to make a fool out of myself. "I can't do it..." Feeling defeated and exhausting my brain, I let out a sigh as my hand drops back down along with my head.

Ellen: "I... I can't use magic"

Gerald: "..."

Everyone stood silent as I muttered those words before looking over to them, their faces all confused as they began whispering to each other again.

Gerald: "Surely is a joke right? Everyone can use-"

Ellen: "Not me... I never learnt how to use magic so instead I've been training in the arts of swords."

The teacher looked shocked at the situation, not that I could blame him. A royal being unable to use magic, or even a mere commoner is unheard of.

Gerald: "Well... we have practice wooden swords here in this area. Would you like to use a sword for your demonstration?"

Ellen: "Yes"

He walks off to the side where numerous wooden swords were on a rack, they looked identical to the ones that Alice and I used before switching to our rapiers.

Handing me one sword I held it firmly in my hand with one hand with the teacher holding the other as we go into positions. The wooden sword felt light than the last time I had used one as I take my stance, facing to the side having my shoulder and sword facing towards the teaching in a pose similar to Alice's elegant posture.

Gerald: "Right, now come at me when you're ready"

Without a moment of hesitation, I lung forward with speed, closing the distance between us in a blink of an eye, swigging my sword to his side. The look on his face was shocked as he only just barely managed to block my strike, but without giving him time to relax, I move my body just like how Alice had taught me, turning my body to quickly make my next attack. He seemed to be struggling to catch my blows as time went on. "So Alice is stronger than a teacher huh?" I think to myself as I continue to attack in an elegant fashion, not leaving any openings for him to make attacks of his own until finally, he leaped backwards at an incredible speed.

I notice he has used magic on his legs, as a gust of wind with a green glow circled around them. "Cheater" I mocked him to myself, before he suddenly propelled himself towards me, now on the offense; I was ready for that though. I deflect all of his attack just like Alice showed me. His attacks were slower as I easily deflected his strikes, trying to mitigate as much force from his blows as I could. Suddenly I saw his body glow once more as his speed had gotten faster before out of nowhere, I found myself lying on the ground in defeat, my legs sore. "Did he trip me?"

Gerald: "Haha, sorry about that, it was quite unexpected. You have a lot of talent in the sword that I had to use magic in order to win. My apologies."

He reaches to me laying on the ground before helping me up, where I notice a slight sweat comin from his face. Adjusting my clothes as I stand up, I look over to the other students, some of their mouths open in shock as they whisper once again.

Gerald: "Right, now who's next?"

I make my way back to the edge of the students, trying not to get in anyone's way as the rest of them slowly took turns demonstrating their magic. I was actually interested in watching them as I try and pick up anything that would help me figure out how to use magic as well.

After the students finished with they demonstration, I got absolutely nothing from them as we make our way back into the classroom. None of the students seem to possess light or dark magic that I could notice.

Gerald: "Now as you all should know there are 6 kinds of magic. Fire, Water, Earth, Light, and Dark. Fire is useful for attack based magic. Water and Earth is also used in attack based magic, however they can also provide useful support magic. Wind however is primarily used for support like I had shown earlier with Ellen, however it can still be used offensively."

So that's what he used; Wind magic.

?: "Sir what about Light and Dark magic?"

Gerald: "Ah. Light magic is special as it is the only magic us humans can use in order to heal others. It is also the strongest magic humans have as it is the true counter to dark magic which demons possess. Only a select few along with some members of the royal family are able to use light magic."

So dark magic is used by demons? Wait demons? I don't remember learning about the existence of demons in this world from Alice or anyone else. The sudden news of demons gave me quite a shock, but as I look around, the other students didn't seem to mind as If they had nothing to worry about.

Eventually after what seemed like an eternity we finally left class, as after the interesting talks of stuff I had no idea about, we went on the the boring stuff that I already learnt in my old world; math. Upon exiting school I could see one of the carriages waiting for me, with Alice waiting outside by the entrance. Seeing her smile from a distance, I make my way towards her as Fabian nudged passed me, breaking through my shoulder to get ahead of me. "What could be his problem?" Finally getting into the carriage, Alice joins us inside before closing the door, ending my first day of school.
