[X784, Fairy Hills]
— Lucy Heartfilia —
The moon hung high over Fairy Hills, the bit of moonlight passing through the open curtains in the hallways of the girls dormitory.
Lucy yawned as she climbed the stairs to her room. She had just spent a late night patrolling with Natsu and Happy and had just finished a bath after she returned. After a whole day of Natsu's antics, she was quite looking forward to sinking into her bed and relaxing.
Just as she turned a corner, a soft drip... drip... echoed behind her. She spun around, eyes widening as water began to pool on the floor, slowly forming a human shape.
The figure solidified, revealing a woman with deep blue hair that flowed to her shoulders.
"Juvia is sorry, but you must come with us."
Lucy's eyes widened. 'A water mage…She's the member of the Elemental Four Erza talked about!'
Then, the floor beneath her rumbled. The wood splintered as another figure emerged, his body twisting as dirt and earth were moved away as if made of clay. He bowed dramatically, his mustache curling up. "Sol of the Great Earth, at your service, mademoiselle."
Lucy took a step back, her eyes darting between the two. Her mind raced. "You're Phantom Lord mages. What are you doing here?"
A flicker of light caught her eye as a third figure stepped out of the shadows. A man with wild, spiky hair and mismatched eyes, a katana strapped to his side. "Tch. Why is this taking so long? Eh?" He eyed Lucy up and down. "Oi, Sol. Is she the target?"
"Why, yes." Sol twirled his mustache. "We are in the presence of the great mademoiselle Lucy Heartfilia. Would you do us the favor of surrendering peacefully? Master Jose requests your presence in Phantom Lord."
Lucy's eyes widened as her heart beat faster. Target? And Heartfilia? How did they…? She shook her head as her eyes narrowed. It doesn't matter. These are the guys that tried to hurt Levy and Lisanna. She clutched Taurus' key behind her back.
"Non non, that won't do. Juvia, if you please." Sol's voice interrupted.
Water rushed forward from Juvia's palm as it formed around Lucy in a sphere. She couldn't react as she suddenly found herself incapable of breathing. She tried swimming up as her head broke through the water line, only for the water to follow and swallowed her back.
"Do not even try, you cannot break out of Juvia's water lock."
However, a door behind her creaked open.
"Huh? What's going on?" Laki stood there, her purple hair tousled with sleep, eyes half-open. But the moment she saw the three intruders, her eyes snapped wide open.
"PHANTOM LO—!"
She didn't finish. Totomaru's fist collided with her stomach, and she crumpled to the floor, unconscious.
"Merde! Why didn't you move faster, Totomaru!" Sol hissed, his eyes narrowing at Totomaru.
Totomaru scoffed, scratching his head. "She surprised me, alright?"
But the damage was done. Doors swung open one after another as the other girls stumbled into the hallway, drawn by Laki's shout.
Leading the charge were Erza and Cana, both wide awake and ready for a fight.
Erza's eyes blazed with fury. "Phantom Lord!" Her body was enveloped in a flash of light as she requipped into her Heaven's Wheel Armor, swords materializing around her. "You dare attack Fairy Hills?!"
Cana's hands were already a blur as she pulled out a deck of cards, magic swirling around her. "Bad move, assholes." She threw a volley of cards, each one glowing with explosive magic.
Juvia's body rippled as the cards passed through her harmlessly. She turned, her eyes cold. "Juvia's body is made of water."
However, Cana's cards were enough to break her concentration as the sphere of water broke off, Lucy falling to the floor coughing out the water from her lungs.
Totomaru stepped forward, a wicked grin on his face as he waved his hand. A wall of fire erupted, burning Cana's cards to ashes. "Fire Magic. Too bad, lady."
Erza wasted no time, her swords launching at Juvia in a spiral dance. Juvia twisted, her body flowing like a river as the blades passed through her. But Erza was relentless, her swords reforming and striking again and again, forcing Juvia to continue dodging.
Meanwhile, Sol charged toward the other girls, his body twisting unnaturally as he moved. "Apologies, but this will be quick, oui?"
Levy jumped in front of him. Her hands moved swiftly, writing glowing letters in the air. "Solid Script: Guard!" The word materialized, forming a massive barrier of words.
Sol didn't stop. He grinned, his body sinking into the ground, phasing beneath the wall before reemerging behind her. "You'll need to do better than that, madame.
Light flashed throughout the hall as a tall, muscular, bull humanoid appeared. "Moo! Don't touch my princess!" Taurus swung his axe, the massive blade narrowly missing Sol's head.
Sol twisted, dodging with catlike reflexes, only to be met with a volley of bullets. Bisca stood at the end of the hallway, a rifle in her hand.
Lisanna leaped forward, transforming her body into a fierce beast with razor-sharp claws. She swiped at Sol, forcing him to leap back, his body bending and twisting unnaturally.
The hallway was chaos. Magic danced across the walls as the girls of Fairy Tail fought back against three of the Elemental Four.
Erza took a step back from her engagement with Juvia. "You're strong, but you picked the wrong guild to mess with." A flash of light marked another use of requip, as she was now clad in her Sea Empress Armor.
Juvia's eyes widened as Erza charged, raising her crystal sword high. The two clashed, water splashing against water as Juvia struggled to keep up. Erza swung her sword as Juvia barely managed to side step in time, a small cut appearing on her right cheek. "Such strength... Is this the Titania Erza?"
Totomaru growled as his flames were countered by Cana's cards. Four of them floated in front of the Card Mage, creating a red tinted shield that blew away all of Totomaru's flames that got close. "Tch. These Fairy brats are annoying."
"Did you really think I got this far in my career as a mage with such an obvious weakness? These are my fire suppression cards, asshole! If they could limit Natsu's flames, they could definitely take you down!"
Sol continued to dodge the combined attacks of Lucy, Levy, Bisca, and Lisanna, frustration growing on his face. "Merde! These girls are very coordinated!"
He dodged another axe from Taurus, sending a cluster of rocks towards the sniper in the back, only for them to run into another wall made of Solid Script. Hearing another gunshot, he instinctively covered his chest with rock armor, managing to block the bullets in time but still getting bruises from it.
Totomaru cursed, glancing at his teammates. "We're getting overwhelmed. We need to retreat!"
Sol's eyes widened with gritted teeth. "Retreat? Now?! We need to finish the job!"
Juvia dodged another strike from Erza, her breath getting heavier by the minute. "Totomaru is right... Juvia... can't keep up..."
Sol clicked his tongue in annoyance. "Fine! We'll come back later."
Totomaru spread his arms, fire swirling around him. "Flame Mirage!" Smoke exploded, filling the hallway and obscuring everyone's vision.
Juvia's body dissolved into water, slipping through the cracks in the window, escaping into the night.
Sol made a hole in the earth beneath his feet, grabbing Totomaru. "We're leaving!"
But just as they began to sink, a hand shot out of the smoke, grabbing Totomaru by the back of his shirt.
Erza's voice cut through the chaos, cold and merciless. "You're not going anywhere."
With a powerful yank, she pulled Totomaru back, throwing him to the floor. The smoke cleared, revealing Erza standing over him, her sword pressed against his throat, her eyes blazing with fury.
She turned her head, shouting down the hallway. "Lucy! Get Virgo to follow Sol! Make sure he leaves, but don't engage!"
Lucy nodded. "Right!" She pulled out her key, closing Taurus's gate and summoning the pink-haired maid. "Open! Gate of the Maiden: Virgo!"
Virgo appeared, bowing deeply. "Punishment time?"
"Not now! Follow that tunnel! Make sure Sol leaves but stay out of sight!"
"As you wish, Princess." Virgo disappeared underground, chasing after Sol.
Erza's grip tightened on her sword. "Now... talk."

[X784, Urgent Town]
— Dannis Martell —
The rest of their vacation was spent largely the same in the following week. They took the chance to relax and unwind, experiencing things they never realized they missed after years of constant missions and trouble.
They took their minds off current worries and went with the flow, following wherever their feet carried them. Mira said once that she wanted to try ice skating, so they visited the country of Iceberg in the far north and experienced snow for the first time in the height of summer.
Dannis himself had always wanted to see the Auroran Lights, a magical phenomenon that could only be seen on Mount Graundstan, one of the tallest mountains in the world located on the border of Fiore and the Kingdom of Seven.
Dannis still remembered as they flew higher than either of them ever had. He remembered the feeling when he pierced the clouds for the first time, feeling droplets of water on his face. When they both reached the peak, they saw it.
Arcs of green and purple that curved across the night sky. Ribbons of light that ran across the darkness like mesmerizing snakes. There were many stories that tried explaining where they came from. Some said they were pure Ethernano itself, so powerful and so rich that they were visible to the naked eye. Others said that a powerful wizard was buried somewhere on the peak of the mountain, and the lights were his magic made real.
Dannis didn't really care what the reason was. What mattered was that he got to experience it with the woman he cared about the most.
He remembered it being one of the best days of his life.
Right now, they were both currently sitting in a pub in a town called Urgent. It was a third the size of Magnolia, but it was a fairly productive town. Since Urgent was located by the side of a rather large hill, the main trade here were ores retrieved from the local mines.
Even now, Dannis could spot the grizzly men and women who had just turned in from a hard day of work, slowly trickling into the pub. The only sort of issue Dannis would have with the town was that it held one of the branches of Phantom Lord.
But as long as they don't bother one another, Dannis was content with leaving them alone.
Dannis and Mira were enjoying a meal when they heard something that caught their attention.
"Oi, did ya hear? The master is telling us to drop everything and to go meet at 'em back at Oak Town."
Dannis' eyes immediately narrowed. Across from him, he saw Mira's smile fading as she listened in as well.
"Eh? But I was just gonna go and do my first solo B-Class mission after being a mage for fifteen years."
"I heard it's urgent. The guys back at the guild building said Aria himself sent the message from lacrima. God knows I don't wanna piss off that guy."
Aria of the Great Sky. The Leader of Phantom Lord's Elemental Four. A man who could control air itself, who was rumored to be able to drain the very life force from his enemies. If he's involved, then things are pretty serious. Dannis thought.
"Oh you idiots didn't know? There was a pretty big fight in Magnolia. I heard Gajeel kicked some Fairy butts."
Mira's grip on her glass tightened, and a crack ran down its side.
"That's not what happened. From what I heard, it was Gajeel that was the one who lost the fight."
"What? You're saying Gajeel lost? How is that possible?"
"Beats me. Everyone knows that Fairy Tail is the strongest guild. Hell, Makarov himself is still part of the Wizard Saints despite being old enough to be Master's Jose's pops. That old man should've kicked the bucket a long time ago."
Dannis's eyes darkened. The air around him grew cold. Mira's glass shattered in her hand, the shards falling to the table.
No one insulted their Master. No one.
Dannis stood up, his chair scraping against the wooden floor. Mira was by his side in an instant. They each grabbed one of the Phantom Lord mages by the throat, hauling them out of the pub and into the back alley.
The remaining patrons went silent, then quickly returned to their meals, pretending they hadn't seen anything.
Outside, the evening air was cool, the sky tinged with the pinks and oranges of sunset. Dannis slammed one of the mages against the stone wall, his grip iron-tight as he leaned in close, his face a mask of cold fury.
"Talk. What the hell are you talking about?"
The man's eyes widened in fear. "Y–Y–You're Dannis Martell! The Dark Swordsman!"
"That's right. Now I suggest you speak."
Mira stood beside him, her grip on the other mage equally unforgiving. Her expression was chillingly calm, a cold smile playing on her lips. "I'm sure you know who I am. You wouldn't want to make me angry," she whispered sweetly. "So, be good boys and tell us everything."
"Sh-Sh-She Devil!" The mages paled. One of them stammered, "I-I don't know much! I swear! Just that Master Jose ordered us all to head to Oak Town. He's gathering everyone!"
Dannis's eyes narrowed. "Why?"
"I-I heard it's because of a fight in Magnolia… Gajeel went up against Fairy Tail, but…" He hesitated.
"But what?" Mira's grip tightened, her nails digging into his skin.
"He lost," the man admitted. "To some girl with blue hair. Master Jose was furious… said he wasn't gonna let Fairy Tail get away with it. He's planning something really big."
Dannis and Mira exchanged a look.
Mira's voice was cold. "Why now? Why would he risk the Magic Council's wrath over one fight?"
The mage hesitated, eyes darting between the two Fairy Tail wizards. "It's… it's because of Lucy Heartfilia."
Dannis's eyes widened. "Lucy? What does she have to do with this?"
"I-I don't know the details… but they say she's rich. Filthy rich. Master Jose thinks having her will change everything. Give Phantom Lord all the money and influence we need."
Mira's face darkened. "When is this happening? When did Jose request your arrival?"
"In… in two days. Aria sent the message. Said we had to be there by then, or we'd face punishment."
"Thanks. You've been very helpful."
Before either mage could respond, Dannis and Mira struck in perfect sync, knocking them out cold. They collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
Dannis straightened, running a hand through his hair. "This is bad. If Jose's calling everyone to Oak Town, he's probably planning an all-out attack."
Dannis's communication lacrima buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out and activated it. Cana's face appeared.
"Dannis! Mira! Thank Mavis I got through to you! Listen, we need help! Phantom Lord just attacked Fairy Hills and tried to kidnap Lucy, but she's safe for now. But we found out something big is coming. Jose's planning an attack."
Dannis's eyes hardened. "Yeah, we heard. We're on our way now."
He ended the call and turned to Mira. Her face was resolute, her cerulean blue eyes blazing with determination.
"No time to waste." Dannis's voice was grim. "If Jose's bringing the full force of Phantom Lord, this could be war."
Mira nodded, her eyes fierce. "Then we fight."
They shared a look, a silent understanding passing between them. They had spent a week running away from responsibilities, from battles and conflict. But they couldn't run anymore.
Their family was in danger.
Without another word, they took off, leaping into the air as magic surged around them. Dannis' clad himself in darkness, dark wings appearing on his back that propelled him forward, while Mira shifted into Satan Soul, scaly wings extending from her back.
They soared over Urgent Town, the wind whipping past them as they headed straight for Magnolia.

AN: All of the Elemental Four are S-Class mages, so I at least had to respect them a little. They put up a fight against the girls of Fairy Tail, but none of them ultimately stood a chance.
This is the ranking I made for the S-Class mages of both guilds.
Gildarts >> Dannis = Laxus = Aria >> Mira >= Erza >= Mystogan > Gajeel = Juvia = Sol = Totomaru = > Everyone else
Natsu, Gray, Elfman, Levy, and Cana all belong to the same tier as Juvia and the rest.
Everyone hyped up Aria so much in the series, only for him to get one shot by an injured and half dying Erza. It's bullshit if you ask me. This was the guy who took down Makarov of all people (I know it was an ambush, but still). I'm putting respect to his name here.
Hope you enjoyed the chapter
Cheers lads.
