SAME ENEMY

Neo exhaled deeply and cleared his throat before knocking on the door. He waited for about ten seconds before he knocked again when he heard no response. Then, someone finally came to open the door.

"What do you want?" Mirabella asked as she opened the door.

"Good evening ma'am." His eyes ran through her ravishing body, at that moment he wanted to hold her and put his lips on hers, hold her tender breast, and take off her dress but he dared not. "I want to apologize for what happened yesterday, I am sorry for causing you pain."

Mirabella smirked. "You say you are sorry?"

"Yes ma'am, I truly am. That is why I am asking for your forgiveness."

"Come in." She opened the door for him to walk in.

"Sorry?" Neo was confused. Why would Mirabella ask him to come into her room? Only if she has ulterior motives.

"You heard me, I asked you to come in." She repeated.

Neo obeyed and walked in quietly. He was amazed to see how her room was decorated, it was like that of a queen's. Actually, Mirabella could easily pass for a queen. She had the body and face for it. "You have a very nice room." He murmured as his eyes travelled around the room.

"I didn't call you in to admire my room," Mirabella said as she stood facing him. "Now tell me, what happened at work today?"

"Pardon my manners ma'am, but I am not allowed to disclose any private matters of my boss to anyone."

Mirabella smirked again. "Didn't you say you were sorry for what happened yesterday?"

"Of course I am, but I am not reporting anything to you." Neo's tone already changed from being remorseful to being stubborn.

"It's fine." She folded her arms and smiled. "Let's see how long you can continue to be like this. Sooner or later, you are still going to report everything to me."

"If that is all, I will like to take my leave." Neo turned his back to leave.

"Who asked you to leave?"

Neo paused then turned to face her. "Is there something else you would like to say?"

"Neo or what are you called? I don't know what John has told you to give you this type of nerve that you have but do not mess with me. Do you think I am doing all these for my own self-interest? I have worked hard for this, and I won't allow you to destroy everything I have worked for because that young boy wants to live his life."

"Young boy?!" Neo scoffed. "That young boy is a grown-ass man. Allow him live his life and see how well he is going to turn out."

"Allow him live his?" Mirabella laughed briefly. "That is never going to happen, he has to live the way I want him to until I get rid of that monster he calls an uncle."

As she mentioned the word uncle again, Neo's mind flashed back to when he was in the office with John. If he wasn't mistaken, John also mentioned his uncle about two to four times. Could it be that the enemy they are trying to fight is this anonymous uncle? "Still, I believe you should allow him to make decisions himself. A man who can't make his own decisions is nothing but a toddler."

"Very well, John is a toddler. Until I get full control of that company, I will keep on making his decisions." She took a few steps closer to him. "I won't become the church rat that I once was because someone is yearning for freedom."

"It would have been preferable if you tried to be considerate con-" Neo was interrupted.

"Shut it! Who are to tell me what and what not to do? What do you know?" Mirabella frowned. "I trust my son, he wouldn't have told you anything about us this early. Get out of my room."

Neo walked out of the room with a lot of questions in his mind. He thought of Mirabella's actions and words, they showed that she was trying to protect something and she was also scared of certain things. To his own knowledge, Mirabella is just trying to be cautious. "What exactly are these people trying to hide?" He walked lifelessly to the sitting room and thought of it again. "They actually have the same enemy." He murmured.

John walked in and was surprised to see his right-hand man deep in thought. "Is everything okay with you?" He asked as he loosened his necktie. "You are supposed to be in your apartment."

"Yes, but I thought I should check on your mom, to apologize to her for what happened yesterday."

"You needn't. Retire to your apartment and relax. We have a lot of work to do tomorrow."

"How was the conference call?" Neo wanted the conversation to last longer.

"Very well." John nodded briefly with a smile.

"There is something I wish to ask you, I will be very grateful if you can give sincere answers to all."

"What if your questions are the type that I can give sincere answers to?"

"Then, don't bother to answer them at all."

John folded his arms. "Okay, let's hear the questions then."

"Who owns that company?"

"My father."

"Where is he?"

"He died."

"When?"

"About ten years ago."

"I'm so sorry about that," Neo said with a lot of sincerity.

"Can you just go straight to the point and stop beating around the bush? We both know you have more pressing questions to ask."

"Why are you bent on getting rid of your uncle?"
