Chapter 31: Meeting in an airport

David returned to his hotel and found there was a message waiting for him. Jessica was going to be in town for three days, as part of a conference, and she wanted to see him.

He called her back.

The phone rang once, then clicked and rang again. On the third ring, she picked up. “Agent Scott,” she said.

“Jessica?”

“Michael! Hi.” Her voice lost all formality. “It’s great to hear from you. Did you get my message?”

“Yeah, I got it,” he said. “When are you coming?”

“Well, my plane leaves here at seven tomorrow morning. So that means I’ll arrive some time in the next however long it takes to get there, minus the time zone difference.”

David laughed. “Where are you flying from?”

She typed something on her computer. “JFK.”

“I’ll figure out the flight,” he said. “Seven o’clock?”

“Officially seven fifteen.”

“Okay, so you should land here about ten thirty, local time.”

“Short flight.” Her voice had laughter in it.

“Six hours or so,” he said. “Bring a book.”
