Chapter 14

Nash

I can’t believe how nervous I am. Then again I haven’t gone out on a date since I was a teenager romancing Katie. I never had to ask for those, they were just assumed. Every Friday and Saturday night, she and I were together. There’s a pain in my chest every time I think of her today. What would she say? For the first time since she’s been gone, I can’t even begin to imagine.

“You’re quiet today.” Jameson sits next to me as we take a break.

He lights a cigarette, which I hate, but we all have our vices. Luckily, he blows it to the side. “Got a lot on my mind.”

“Any of it having to do with Caroline?”

I’ve been careful, at least I thought I was, when it comes to how much attention I pay to her. Apparently I haven’t been as careful as I thought. “Yeah.”

He situates himself next to me, stretching his long legs out. He stalled about an inch below me, and I’ve never let him forget it. “Talk to me, Nash. What’s going on in that head of yours.”
