Jack: "David, we found evidence that links you to the murder. We have an envelope with cash and a note that says 'job well done,' which you gave to a man in the park. Care to explain?"
David: "I didn't kill him! I swear! That money was for something else."
Detective Johnson: "What else could it be for?"
David: "I... I can't say."
Jack: "David, we need you to tell us the truth. It's the only way you can help yourself now."
David: "Okay, okay... I hired someone to scare my former boss. I didn't want to hurt him; I just wanted to make him pay for firing me and ruining my life."
Detective Johnson: "Did you tell this person to kill him?"
David: "No, of course not! I just wanted them to threaten him, maybe rough him up. I didn't think they would go that far."
Jack: "Who did you hire? Do you have a name?"
David: "I don't know his real name. He goes by 'Slim.' I met him at a bar a few weeks ago, and he said he could help me get revenge on my boss."
Detective Johnson: "And where can we find this Slim?"
David: "I don't know. He called me from a burner phone, and we only met in public places. I don't have any other way to contact him."
Detective Johnson: "David, we need you to help us locate Slim. You're the only one who has had contact with him. Can you remember anything else about him?"
David: "He was a tall guy, around 6'2, with a muscular build. He had short black hair and a snake tattoo on his left arm."
Jack: "That's a start. Did he mention where he's from or where he lives?"
David: "No, he didn't give me any details about his personal life. He was very secretive."
Detective Johnson: "What about the bar where you met him? Do you remember the name or location?"
David: "It was called The Rusty Nail. It's in the downtown area."
Jack: "We'll send a team to check it out. Maybe someone there knows something about Slim."
Detective Johnson: "David, I know this is hard, but you must be honest. Is there anything else you haven't told us?"
David: "No, that's everything. I just hope you catch him before he hurts anyone else."
Jack: "We will, David. Thanks for your cooperation. We'll be in touch."
Detective Johnson: "We'll need you to come with us for further questioning, David. We need to get a better understanding of your involvement in this."
David: "Of course, I understand."
Jack: "We'll also need to search your home and workplace for any other evidence related to this case."
David: "That's fine. Whatever it takes to clear my name and bring justice for the victim."
Detective Johnson: "We appreciate your cooperation, David. It will go a long way in helping us solve this case."
Jack: "Let's go. We have work to do."
David: "Can I ask you something?"
Detective Johnson: "Sure. What is it?"
David: "Do you think there's any chance I'll be able to clear my name? I didn't kill anyone, but I understand why you're suspicious."
Jack: "David, we can't make any promises, but we'll do everything possible to find the truth. That's our job."
Detective Johnson: "And as long as you continue cooperating with us and telling us everything you know, we'll consider that."
David: "Thank you. I just want this nightmare to be over."
Jack: "We understand, David. This is a difficult situation, but we'll do our best to get to the bottom of it."
Detective Johnson: "Now, let's get back to the investigation. You mentioned that Slim called you from a burner phone. Did you recognize the number?"
David: "No, it was a new number each time he called. I never saved it."
Jack: "Did he mention where he was staying or where he might be located?"
David: "No, he was careful not to reveal personal details. I know he said he would contact me when the job was done."
Detective Johnson: "We need to find a way to track down this burner phone. We'll check with phone companies and see if there's any way to trace it."
Jack: "In the meantime, we'll keep investigating and see if we can find any leads on Slim's whereabouts."
David: "Do you think he's still in the city?"
Detective Johnson: "It's hard to say. He could have left already or be laying low somewhere in the area."
Jack: "We'll have to broaden our search and see if anyone matching his description has been spotted elsewhere."
Detective Johnson: "In the meantime, we'll also check with local bars and clubs to see if anyone knows anything about a guy named Slim with a snake tattoo."
David: "I can help with that. I used to frequent a few places around town. Maybe someone there has seen him."
Jack: "That would be a big help, David. We'll set up a meeting and go over where you used to go."
Detective Johnson: "And we'll keep you updated on any new developments in the case. Thanks for your cooperation, David."
David: "Anything to help find the guy who did this."
The three of them left the room and headed to their respective tasks. Jack gathered more information on the victim, Detective Johnson contacted the phone companies to see if they could trace the burner phone, and David accompanied another detective to visit the bars he used to go to.
Over the next few days, they gathered more information and leads. Jack discovered that the victim had a history of shady business dealings and was involved in illegal activities. Detective Johnson traced the burner phone to a local store where it was purchased. Still, unfortunately, the store didn't have any security footage of the buyer.
David and the other detective visited several bars and clubs. They spoke to bartenders and patrons, showing them a picture of Slim and asking if anyone had seen him. They got a few promising leads but have yet to be concrete.
After a week of intensive investigation, Detective Johnson called Jack and David to the precinct.
Detective Johnson: "We have a new lead. One of the bartenders we spoke to said she saw Slim leaving The Rusty Nail with a woman a few weeks ago."
Jack: "That's something. Do we have a description of the woman?"
Detective Johnson: "Yes, she's described as having long blonde hair and a red dress. We will pull security footage from the bar and see if we can identify her."
David: "I remember that night. I was there too. I didn't see Slim leave with anyone, but I remember a woman who matched that description sitting at the bar."
Jack: "That's good to know. We'll follow up on that. Anything else?"
Detective Johnson: "Yes, we also have a new witness who came forward. He claims to have seen Slim walking towards a nearby motel a few days after the murder."
David: "Which motel?"
Detective Johnson: "The Starlight Motel. We'll check it out and see if there's any sign of him."
Jack: "Alright, let's split up and follow up on these leads. David, you come with me to the Starlight Motel. Detective Johnson, you pull the security footage to The Rusty Nail. We'll reconvene later and see if we have any new information."
