Chapter 62: All Strange People

Sitting in Yang Chen's car, Li Jingjing felt that this was the happiest day of her life, even more exciting than the day she graduated from university. Shes face was always adorned with a sweet smile, which left Yang Chen, who was driving, unsure of what to say.

"Are you that happy?" Yang Chen couldn't help but ask.

Li Jingjing nodded earnestly. "But I don't think Jiang Shuo is very happy."

Yang Chen glanced at Li Jingjing and couldn't help but laugh. "So, you know everything, huh? Yet you still pretend to be clueless."

"Hehe," Li Jingjing smiled, pursing her lips. "Well, I don't understand everything, but if I think about it carefully, I can understand some of the things Brother Yang has done."

"Listen, if that Jiang Shuo bullies you or makes things difficult for you, just let me know. I'll help you solve it, just like what happened with the Chen family last time," Yang Chen said solemnly.

"Okay, I got it, Yang Chen."

From start to finish, Li Jingjing didn't inquire much about the Chen family's affairs. Her intelligence surprised Yang Chen, but he also felt relieved. This girl perhaps knew more than he had imagined, but most of the time, she preferred to be a silly neighbor girl silently caring for him.

When they arrived at Li Jingjing's doorstep, Mr. and Mrs. Li were returning from their walk outside. They looked surprised to see Yang Chen and Li Jingjing getting out of the car.

"Well done, young man! You've made it!" Mr. Li exclaimed with delight upon seeing the car Yang Chen was driving. "I knew you were extraordinary, Yang. So fast! You've changed jobs, and now you've upgraded from a unicycle to a four-wheel vehicle!"

Mrs. Li, on the other hand, focused on the bags and bags of clothes that Li Jingjing brought out of the car. Nervously, she asked, "Jingjing, why did you buy so many clothes? These bags look so fancy. They must be expensive, right?!"

Li Jingjing called out shyly, "Mom... It's Yang Chen who bought them for me."

The elderly couple both showed a strange expression but seemed pleased. Their gaze towards Yang Chen also became more affectionate.

Li Jingjing knew what her parents were thinking, but if she were to mention Yang Chen getting married, it would certainly mean that she would no longer be allowed to contact him in the future. So, she had no choice but to endure the embarrassment, pick up the pile of clothes, and hurriedly run into the house, forgetting to say goodbye to Yang Chen.

Mr. Li spoke earnestly, "Yang Chen, Jingjing had a tough time when she was young. Don't disappoint her."

Feeling a bit helpless, Yang Chen didn't know how to respond. He simply nodded with a sincere smile. Explaining himself at this point would be unnecessary and would only invite more trouble.

Bidding farewell to the elderly couple who regarded him as a son-in-law, Yang Chen felt lost. As he drove, he pondered that if it weren't for the chance encounter with Lin Ruoxi, the icy woman, marrying Li Jingjing would have been a good choice. She was understanding and virtuous.

However, the thought was quickly dismissed from Yang Chen's mind as he remembered that his wife was still lying in the hospital. Regardless of the circumstances, he had to move forward with Lin Ruoxi. As for the future, who could predict it?

When Yang Chen arrived back at Longjing Villa, the temperature outside had cooled down. The chilly wind rustled through the treetops, making the spacious villa area appear particularly tranquil.

Just as Yang Chen was about to open the door and enter the house, he saw Aunt Wang opening the door from inside, pretending to be casual.

"Wang Ma, why are you going out so late?" Yang Chen asked, puzzled.

Wang Ma appeared somewhat delighted and smiled. "Young Master, you've returned! Perfect timing. I was planning to take the books that Miss requested to the hospital. Although Miss agreed to rest for half a month, she insists on reading. Why don't you come with me? I'm sure Miss will be very happy."

I can't tell if she's happy or not... Yang Chen thought to himself and said, "It's late already, Aunt Wang. You should rest. I'll take the books to her myself."

Wang Ma assumed that the young couple wanted some private space and didn't waste any more words. She immediately handed a large plastic bag filled with books to Yang Chen and went back into the house.

Just as Yang Chen returned home, he set off again, making his second trip of the day to the First Central Hospital.

After driving for over half an hour, Yang Chen arrived at Lin Ruoxi's ward. The lights were still on in the room, but he noticed that besides Lin Ruoxi, there was another woman sitting by the bedside—an encounter that Yang Chen wasn't particularly happy about, even if the woman was stunningly beautiful.

"Yo, the busy man still knows how to visit the hospital," Mo Qiani seemed to be discussing something with Lin Ruoxi and sneered when she saw Yang Chen enter.

Yang Chen didn't bother with his troublesome superior and smiled as he placed the bag of books on the bedside table. "Wang Ma is getting old, and it's too tiring for her to go out so late. I brought them on her behalf. From now on, just let me know, it's too hard for Wang Ma to do these things for the elderly."

Lin Ruoxi glanced briefly at the books and said, "Next time, I'll call for you."

Yang Chen was quite satisfied that Lin Ruoxi listened to him. It seemed that this woman was quite rational and not simply cold-hearted.

Mo Qiani wrinkled her delicate nose in displeasure and said, "Yang Chen, you reek of smoke and alcohol. Stay away and don't stink up Ruoxi!"

"Oh." Yang Chen awkwardly smiled and took a few steps back. "I had a few drinks with some new acquaintances. I forgot I haven't showered yet."

"Hmph! Ruoxi is exhausted and bedridden, while her husband is out gallivanting, shameless..." Mo Qiani sneered disdainfully.

Yang Chen's patience wore thin. "Listen, my legally wedded wife hasn't said a word, so why are you bothering me? The emperor isn't anxious, but the eunuch is."

"What did you say!?" Mo Qiani widened her almond-shaped eyes, stood up, and her ample bosom heaved with anger. A blush crept onto her beautiful face. "How dare you call me a eunuch? You're the eunuch!"

"Am I a eunuch? Why don't you try and find out?" Yang Chen smirked.

"You shameless!"

"Alright..." Lin Ruoxi finally interjected, furrowing her eyebrows. She glanced back and forth between Yang Chen and Mo Qiani, feeling a headache coming on. She rubbed her forehead and said, "Can you two stop arguing in the hospital? It's late, can't you be quiet?"

Mo Qiani pouted and grabbed Lin Ruoxi's hand coquettishly. "Ruoxi, look at your husband. Who does he think he is? Instead of taking care of you when you're sick, he's out there fooling around, drinking and having fun."

Lin Ruoxi remained silent for a moment, then raised her head and asked Yang Chen, "Where did you go drinking?"

Feeling a bit frustrated, Yang Chen lazily replied, "The Land of Abundance, with quite a few women. What's the matter, my dear wife? Do you want to manage me?"

"Oh, I see." Lin Ruoxi nodded and then, as if nothing had happened, reached into the plastic bag and took out a book, starting to flip through it.

Seeing that everything was settled, Yang Chen sighed, shook his head, and walked out of the ward.

Mo Qiani was left sitting there, looking at the door, then at Lin Ruoxi engrossed in her book, mouth wide open and stunned. For a long time, she couldn't find words to say and finally managed to blurt out, "You two are both strange people!"
