CHAPTER 5

West African Nations Republic was formerly an alliance made up of 16 West African countries. It was formed during WWIII when they realized they wouldn't be able to keep their territories or independence safe for long in the ravaging war. They agreed to a truce among themselves and allied together to defend against external forces, the alliance was later developed into an officially recognized Republic after the war.

The 16 nations only interfered with each other's affairs when national security was on the line therefore the only forces in the Republic were the WAM(West African Military) and the Chairs, which made up the 16 presidents and a periodically appointed representative. The representative was a single individual with no faction so as to maintain equal power among the chairs but the recently appointed representative was an oddball who had a very powerful agency under his grasp.

Twelve out of sixteen chairs appointed him as the 17th chair despite him holding a powerful force. The plan was to make the 17th chair a recognized faction for their future agendas.

Former General, Divine Adeleke of the Nigerian Army and the now appointed 17th chair who is popularly known as 'Baba'. The 12 chairs who had supported this man would later come to realize the huge mistake they made.

Northwest Pro tower...

Nei had been experiencing the worst time of his life these past few hours and just wanted it to end soon. He was desperately praying for this only to suddenly be acquainted with a crazy, fat old man who dared to cause a commotion in a Safe Haven.

"I see." Director Myung confirmed the last words of Baba while Nei denied it. Director Myung was suspicious at first but he later realized Baba had just said it on a whim.

"Hey, let's have a meeting." Baba had a very weird accent and tone every time he spoke Korean.

"This fucking bastard!" Director Myung only belatedly came to his senses and realized that the first floor of the tower was destroyed just because the narcissistic old man standing before him wanted a meeting.

"You still have that damn attitude, did the Chair members go senile to actually give you the representative position!"

"I know right? huhu." Baba laughed it off and placed the RPG he had been hanging on his shoulders on the ground.

"This fucker, do you seriously not know what situation you are in right now."

"Huhu, I am aware. Those UN bastards were on my tail so I didn't have the time to knock."

Director Myung's expression distorted like a demon and his veins were bulging out after hearing Baba's absurd excuse. Secretary Kim who had been observing the situation responded to Director Myung's anger and pulled out his gun. The war drones also started to hover around Baba.

As if responding to the current situation, Baba made a serious expression for the first time and said

"I am going to get involved in the 'civil war', those UN bastards know this and they have been trying to stop me from seeking the cooperation of other agencies. An informant would probably be on his way here to make things complicated. Blowing up the floor would cause a huge commotion and delay his arrival. It was a calculated action."

The bleeding Nei who had listened to the conversation was confused about the civil war part but if an informant was truly on his way here, Baba's absurd actions seemed justified. Director Myung on the other hand saw right through Baba.

"Bullshit. You just made it all up. I know from personal experience that you don't think before you take any action."

"Huhu, you know me well..huhu. Anyway, let's grab some food and talk. I meant it when I said I would be getting involved." Baba's serious expression disappeared like it was a lie.

Director Myung sighed and also returned to his usual expression. Secretary Kim lowered his guard a little bit and the war drones stopped hovering around Baba in response to Director Myung's attitude.

"You say you will get involved despite knowing our stand?"

"Yep."

" 'He' won't be happy."

"That's why I came to meet you."

Director Myung sighed again and shifted his gaze to Nei who was still bleeding.

"Forget everything you saw and heard. Get that checked up and prepare for your job. Kim Ha-Eun will be arriving in a few days"

Nei gave a brief nod in response and headed toward the shattered glass doors. He coincidentally locked eyes with Baba as he passed by him.

"Wetin this one dey look? (what are you staring at)" Baba spoke in Pidgin, a common broken English used throughout Africa. Surprisingly, Nei responded in Pidgin.

"Nah you I dey look(I am staring at you)"

Nei's father had moved out here from Nigeria as a little boy. But his father still often spoke Pidgin to Nei in his later years. Nei naturally picked up a few things.

"Ohh, I heard Safe Havens had a variety of people and cultures but seeing a Nigerian is still surprising." Baba had a warm smile on his face as he appreciated seeing his fellow brother. But Nei explicitly denied it.

"I am Japanese."

"Mixed parents?"

"No. Mother's side is South Korean and the other is Nigerian."

"...?" The confused Baba was trying to figure out what Nei meant when he claimed citizenship to a nation he had no background in. Baba really couldn't understand. How could he? It was every otaku's dream to be Japanese. In Nei's mind, he was Japanese and nothing else.

"Anyhow, if you are ever in West Africa, ask for Baba. I will show you around."

Nei scoffed and headed outside. He had no idea that Baba was someone he would later come to hold great affection for.

A few days later...

Nauru International Airport

The airport was filled with people going and coming just like any other day. For a Safe Haven, people who looked, talked, behaved, and dressed differently were always everyday sights. They were the descendants of those who had moved out here during the Great Migration. Most of the people were even armed. It was due to Nauru's particularly strict laws.

Even if Safe Havens were regarded as military islands, there were still a large number of ordinary people who lived common lives. But that didn't apply to Nauru, the Seventeen Agencies on the island had a law that everyone over 18 had to serve in one Agency for 4 years as a field guard(guards who handled dangerous and external jobs like serving in the armed forces and carrying out kill orders). The only way to escape this reality was to enlist as an official contracted guard.

As a result of these laws, about ninety percent of both men and women in Nauru were guards. The world was now past gender discrimination in a funny way. Everybody gets to experience hell.

'It's funny how we are called guards but do more of killing than protecting' Nei who had been told ahead of time that Kim Ha-Eun would be arriving today was dressed as cool as usual. This time he was properly armed and he had gotten a new drone for Simon. He could bring a weapon to the airport primarily because this was a Safe Haven and he was a contracted guard.

Nei who was jamming an early era music, suddenly paused it because he could see the three particularly unique figures approaching him.

It was Kim Ha-Eun and her guards. His first impression was

'Pretty'

In Nei's words...

'She had a well-balanced body shape, the ass was particularly awe-gripping. Her yellow-like skin was shining and complemented her black long hair that she had tied. She was also rocking a gothic-style dress with an armless dark green vest and wore silver rings. She had a very mature outlook that seemed to fit her baby-like face.'

The two guards behind her were...odd.

They both wore black suits. One had long black hair and looked like he had gone hungry for months while the other had short black hair and it wouldn't be surprising if he couldn't jump up high due to his weight. They weren't really fat or thin, they even looked like they visited the gym a lot. They just looked...odd. It was an unfamiliar body type to Nei.

Kim Ha-Eun extended out her hands for a greeting while exchanging names.

"I am Kim Ha-Eun, let's get along"

"Uh..yeah. I am Nei Floren. Pleased to be working with you"

Nei was surprised. The North Korean princess was polite to her guard and even used formal speech. What trickery is this? While Nei was doubting the current situation. The two guards also introduced themselves.

"Yo, I am Park Ji-Woo." the long-haired one spoke first.

"And I am Park Joo-Won." the short-haired one also introduced himself.

'Of course, the two oddballs who looked nothing alike were siblings.'

Nei would be staying in the safe house along with seven people. He was honestly not looking forward to it. But he changed his mind at this moment, Kim Ha-Eun was exceptionally polite during the journey to the safe house.

'Pretty and nice, who wouldn't like her? Who knows if I...[omitted]'

Nei who had been having wild thoughts during the journey had a distorted expression when he finally arrived at the safe house. It was completely different from the glamorous home he was expecting.

It was an apartment with only two bedrooms.

He had to share rooms?

When the Japanese guards arrived he would have to share rooms with even more people. Sure the rooms were unusually large but he still didn't like the fact he had to sleep in the same room as other guys and grumbled.

If anyone knew his thoughts they would go...

'He is a guard and this guy can only think about his sleeping time?!'

Nei,...his laziness reached its peak a long time ago.
