Chapter 48

Police officers showed up about a half an hour later, along with an ambulance for Felicia and Sebastian.

“I don’t understand.” Felicia said to Sebastian as they sat in an ambulance, waiting to be transported to the hospital. “I saw you get shot in the head, how are you not dead?”

“By some miracle, the bullet only grazed my head, Nickleby must not be a very good shot.”

Felicia winced as a paramedic took her injured hand, placing her broken fingers in temporary splints. “I’m just glad that it’s all over.”

“So am I.” Sebastian bit his lip as he looked at Felicia. “Look, this whole experience tonight, it made me realize just how precious and short life really is.” He took Felicia’s uninjured hand, and the normally pale woman found herself blushing madly. “Sebastian…what are you trying to say?”

“I’m saying…would you maybe want to go out for dinner sometime?”

“I-”

Felicia was cut off by a squeal. Looking out the open ambulance doors, she saw her friends.
