Urgent decision (2)

During the examination, Roffe occasionally glanced at Elmer. After a long while, she put down the records and test results and said, "Your mother's condition is rare in our country. Based on my ten years of experience, this disease cannot be cured completely but can be managed with medication and weekly intravenous therapy. Mrs. Bi will not be in danger as long as she continues with her treatment."

"But the doctor who washed my mother's stomach yesterday said that she could have surgery for only $100,000!" Elmer exclaimed.

"Ah, I see. I'm sorry but her judgment was flawed. Besides, she's a gastroenterologist while I'm an oncologist. Naturally, my opinion carries more weight," explained Roffe.

Feeling deceived, Elmer became extremely frustrated and even felt like flipping the table. He asked Roffe, "Isn't there any other way?"

Looking stern, Roffe shook her head, though she didn't want to disappoint him. "Thank you, doctor," Elmer said as he stood up and left Roffe's office.

Lillian, who was like a ghost, stood outside. When she saw Elmer come out, she squinted and smiled, following him and saying, "Just suck your mother's blood, so she can live too."

"I don't want to become a vampire!" Elmer ignored Lillian completely.

"I heard what the doctor said earlier. Are you willing to let your mother get pricked by needles every day and take medicine constantly, until her body becomes like a laboratory mouse, with sores all over it, and eventually dies?"

Lillian's smile became slightly sinister.

A gust of wind suddenly blew from the front. Before Lillian could react, Elmer grabbed her neck and pressed her against the wall. He stared at her fiercely and said coldly, "She's the mother who gave birth to me and raised me. I won't allow you to curse her. Otherwise, you'll become my appetizer, and I'll suck all your blood dry!"

Looking at Elmer's angry face, Lillian burst out laughing and said, "The goddess of fate has already reached out to you, but you keep refusing her. That will make her very angry, and when the time comes, it won't just be your mother who dies."

Elmer approached Lillian and smelled the scent emanating from her body. He opened his mouth, revealing two teeth that had not grown longer, and said coldly, "I really want to bite you to death!"

Seeing that Elmer's fangs had not grown longer, Lillian knew that he wouldn't do it now. She softened her tone and said, "I suggest you think of ways to save your mother. If you want to settle accounts with me, you'll have plenty of opportunities in the future."

"Hmph!"

Elmer snorted and released his grip, then turned and left.

Watching Elmer disappear at the staircase, Lillian rubbed her neck, which had turned red, and chuckled, "He's really an interesting human – oh no, he should be called a Vampire Lord!"

Back at his mother's bedside, Elmer chatted with her until 2 a.m. Margaret fell asleep, but Elmer remained sitting next to her, staring at his mother's haggard face and unwilling to move away. His father had died, and his mother was his only closest relative left. Elmer absolutely could not let anything happen to her!

Elmer paced back and forth outside the emergency room, anxiously awaiting news of his mother's condition. He was struggling with a difficult decision, recalling the advice of both the doctor and Lillian. His mother needed medication and intravenous fluids every week, with needles inserted into her body, but Elmer felt like the needle was being inserted into his own heart.

At five o'clock in the evening, Elmer wanted to wake his mother up for dinner, but after calling her several times without a response, he became worried and called a nurse. The nurse checked Margaret's eyes and ran out of the room in fright. Later, the head nurse came and pushed Margaret out, saying they needed to perform emergency treatment.

Elmer couldn't eat anything and was pacing outside the emergency room. Finally, at seven o'clock, Margaret was pushed out in a white gown with bloodstains. "How is my mother?" Elmer asked anxiously. "She had a gastrointestinal bleed. I suggest you call your father to come to the hospital. She may not live long," the nurse said.

Elmer was frozen in place, unable to move or speak. When the stretcher left his sight, he finally came back to his senses and hurried into the ward. Looking at his unconscious mother, Elmer wished it was him lying on the bed, not his mother, who had sacrificed so much for him and his sisters.

At eleven o'clock that night, the hospital was quiet, and Elmer was still holding his mother's hand. Although he looked calm on the outside, he was struggling internally. What would happen if he drank his mother's blood to bring her back to life?
