Life or Death

The captain of the Imperial Guard was first stunned, then understood, and shouted at Awei, "What do you mean!"

He thought it was Awei who had hinted at Xiong Yu, but he still didn't quite believe that Xiong had any thinking.

"It's not me, it's Xiong Xiong's decision." Awei was also surprised. After thinking about it, he understood Xiong Yu's meaning. "There is a traitor among you. Otherwise, how could our whereabouts be exposed in such a large forest!"

Hearing this sentence, the captain of the Imperial Guard couldn't help but show astonishment on his face, and the remaining three also became restless.

Xia Yu took the opportunity to use his telepathy to sense their attitudes.

There were no problems with all four of them, including the captain of the Imperial Guard.

No problem means that there might be a problem. Maybe the traitor had no scruples and didn't show any hostility. It could also be that the other party was being used without knowing it. Anyway, Xia Yu decided to give it a try.

If the sense of crisis does not disappear after leaving them, it proves that it is not their responsibility.

"Take me with you, I can't be the traitor!" Aflower said to Awei.

Awei did not speak.

"Alright, I get it. Where shall we meet after we go out?" Aflower gave up struggling.

"In the Imperial City." Awei said, referring to the city controlled by the Imperial Guard.

The captain of the Imperial Guard wanted to say something, but after looking at his two remaining subordinates and the brown bear, he dispelled the idea.

In this way, the group split into two paths.

A hundred meters away from them, the sense of crisis in Xia Yu's heart disappeared.

The problem really lay with those people.

Letting Meimei ride on his back, Xiong Yu told Awei to speed up.

Awei made a simple judgment after walking a certain distance, making sure that the captain of the Imperial Guard and his men could no longer see them, and chose to move southeast.

Because they changed their path, the route was lengthened, and they didn't manage to leave the forest even by nighttime.

However, it was already close. They were expected to leave before dawn.

As they reached the edge of the forest, the enemy soldiers increased in number. Xia Yu relied on his telepathy to pick the least dangerous places to move forward, but there were still several risks encountered.

Fortunately, it was nighttime, and there were no dangers or even battles.

If they had engaged in battle, a team of two people and one bear would face either death or injury against groups of five or ten.

"There's about an hour left to go." Awei whispered to Xiong Yu.

Before he could finish speaking, Xiong Yu patted him on the back, and Awei immediately stopped talking and hid behind a tree.

The brown bear clapped its paws to indicate that an enemy squad was approaching. It had never made a mistake on this journey.

Sure enough, Awei heard some sounds coming from a distance. It was a good thing that the brown bear had warned them in time.

Although he was used to it, Awei still marveled at Xiong Yu. This was an almost miraculous ability.

Xia Yu was not satisfied with this miracle, as he could only sense danger when being targeted, or when it was about to occur. In the case of an ambush, he would only detect it when it was close.

Bending down, he also hid behind a tree, with the surrounding darkness being so pure that the moonlight could hardly penetrate through the leaves above. As long as they didn't get too close, the team wouldn't be able to detect the three of them.

It should have been this way.

Feeling the sense of crisis that not only didn't disappear but intensified, Xia Yu was very shocked.

Using his night vision, he carefully observed the approaching people, and the leader had a black device on his head which was a night vision goggles.

The other party had already discovered them and was quietly discussing countermeasures with their teammates.

Xia Yu reached out his claws again and patted Awei.

Awei thought that if there was no danger, Xiong Yu would leave by himself and never pat him on the shoulder again.

Did that mean they had been discovered?

Awei raised the gun in his hand, looked at Xiong Yu, and Xiong Yu nodded, making a cross sign to indicate that there were ten people on the other side.

If it came to an ambush, Xia Yu was confident that he could easily kill the ten people, but now that they had been discovered, he was not sure if he could defeat the ten fully armed soldiers.

The power of firearms was too great, and Xiong Yu didn't have any equipment. If he wore a special bulletproof vest, he could become a steel combat bear. Xia Yu was confident that he could protect Mei Mei all the way through, and he could even take her to the temporary government or the headquarters of the rebel army as long as they didn't use rocket launchers.

Awei knew this too, so he approached Xia Yu's ear and whispered, "Go northward along the road outside the mountain, and after about three hours of driving, you'll reach a desert. There's a gathering place on the edge of the desert, wear this and walk around inside, someone you can trust will come find you."

After saying that, Awei placed a golden badge in Xiong Yu's palm.

Putting the badge in Mei Mei's bag, Xia Yu already understood what Awei wanted to do.

Awei squatted down, quickly ran to a tree in the distance and hid behind it.

The team thought Awei hadn't discovered them, so they were wondering what he wanted to do when Awei raised his gun and began shooting.

He couldn't see the position of the team at all, but he managed to hit someone and killed one person, unfortunately not the one with night vision equipment.

The remaining nine people became panicked, quickly hid behind trees, and Xia Yu took advantage of the situation, fixed Mei Mei to his back with a belt, and immediately ran towards the distance.

He stared at the leader with night vision goggles, estimating the distance between them. If the distance was appropriate, he would go directly and deal with the leader, destroy the night vision goggles, and everything would be resolved.

However, the leader's position was in the center of the other eight people, and the distance was somewhat far.

Xia Yu could only abandon the plan and pray for Awei's good fortune. As the nine-man team was attacked and panicked, he quickly left this path.

After knowing that there would be night vision goggles in the search team behind him, Xia Yu became even more cautious, but still encountered another team due to having nowhere to hide.

He stuffed Mei Mei under himself, pretending to be a casual bear passing by, and successfully deceived them.

Fortunately, the night vision goggles in their hands were not high-quality products.

After fooling this team, Xia Yu moved forward and saw the moonlight outside the forest, not far from the exit.

Mei Mei hugged Xia Yu's neck tightly, a sign of excitement. Xia Yu was also excited, but this excitement didn't last long.

Through the gaps in the trees, soldiers could be seen walking back and forth on the road outside.

The soldiers didn't have night vision goggles on their heads, but the moonlight was bright enough on the road without the obstruction of trees. In the middle of the road was a truck with an observer on top using night vision goggles.

Xia Yu slowly retreated, thinking of going from the southeast corner where he was now to the south side of the road to avoid the soldiers, but this was not realistic.

Because dawn was about to break.

After daybreak, he would have no way of avoiding the search squads densely stationed at the edge of the forest.

During the day, hiding under a bear also appeared to have many flaws.

As he was thinking, Xia Yu felt his waist loosen – Mei Mei had untied his belt. The girl also knew that the situation had reached its most dangerous and hopeless point.

She quickly ran out of the forest and appeared on the road, raising her hands.

She chose to surrender in order to keep the brown bear out of danger.

The patrolling soldiers on the road were stunned. The officer who was sitting on the truck and wearing a big hat, was overjoyed. However, he did not plan to accept Mei Mei's surrender and raised the gun in his hand.
