Chapter 1: introductory of grades
it is well known that any skill and item present on our world is given a rating with the four most known being lesser, common, uncommon and rare. this text is directed to give basic knowledge on grades and there functions as well as the different hardships of gaining higher grade skills and the creation of higher grade items. we will also dive a small amount into the effects of levels on said skills.
skills
Every thinking being under the gods and goddesses grace will gain at least ten lesser, five common and one uncommon skill during their lifetime, based on repeated actions taken by that being. for example an excitable child may gain the skill running (belonging to the lesser grade family of skills) due to the amount of running they do, or gain the common skill artistry if they begin the pursuits of creation from an early age, just like a hunter will gain common skills pertaining to their weapons of choice whilst on a mission. it is also documented that children from any species gain skills faster than there adult counterparts. for example those of the elven lines, due to their curse, take at least a year to properly learn and integrate lesser skills, if they do not posses growth accelerators or complimentary skills (expanded upon in chapter 3: interactions between skills). in contrast a child of the elven lines may, at most, take nine months to gain and integrate a lesser skill fully (the shortest recorded time was of one month with a bastard child born from Tru-forest royal family and the evergreen noble family).
Though, the previously mentioned four grades of lesser, common, uncommon and rare are the most known grades. those are not the only ones available to those who have access to the system. those individuals that take higher pursuits of things such as crafting, the daring life of a hunter or the thinkers that pursue spell crafting sometimes gain access to skills in even higher grades. though some historical documents suggest five more grades beyond the most known four and rumours on the broken isles of a sixth, our research team has only been able to confirmed accounts and proof of three more grades. very rare, lesser-epic and epic with anything over very rare seeming to require an extraordinary situation, training or trial to unlock.
though the grade of a skill may mislead you into believing that higher grades are more powerful than there lesser counterparts that is not necessarily true. For example, a human with the common rarity skill swordsmanship will still be able to defeat a human with the uncommon rarity skill sword arts this is because of two reasons, firstly grades only describe the rarity of said skill and not its power and secondly sword arts is only a complimentary skill (which again will be expanded upon in chapter 3: interactions between skills). this means that skill rarity is only dependant on the amount of people in a populace gain said skill, but that does not mean that rarity does not change things related to a skill.
in the regards to the case study of the sprint skill which occurred in recent times, only 50 years ago, that was downgraded from an uncommon skill into a common skill. it was documented, charted and spoke about in a that period that there was an increased ease of gaining said skill. this along with other such data sets has allowed us to confirm that when the grade of a skill decreases so does the ease at which a being may learn it. though this confirmation has spawned various theory's of how skills function this text will not delve into them, though if you are interested on the topic I and my colleagues would suggest reading theory's and known mechanics of skills. as a final note to add to the skills sections though the other two grades, titled lesser legendary and legendary respectively, of skills out of the five mentioned in history are not confirmed to exist there are twenty four confirmed cases of lesser legendary items and three confirmed legendary items in existence and though these grades have not been confirmed, by this research team, in regards to skills the correlation between skill and item grade seems to suggest they do in fact exist.
