Delivery Dino

Whatever the word "Coincidence" means, this is certainly it.

Honestly speaking, Miaoyi was taken by surprise at the sight before her. The person standing in front of her was none other than The Rex, with whom she had a long-standing feud since the very beginning. Her impression of him was anything but positive – quite the opposite.

Therefore, considering how closely their paths intersected just a few months ago, Miaoyi readily recognized the former top producer of China's new generation.

Oh my... Why was she seeing The Rex here, and in the role of a delivery guy at that?

"This is quite unexpected..." The Rex appeared surprised too, his expression forming a faint, awkward smile. He seemed somewhat uncomfortable, as if he wished to make a swift departure.

"It's indeed quite a coincidence. But seriously, just a few months have passed, and look at you now. How did you end up like this?" Miaoyi furrowed her brow, scanning The Rex from head to toe, her eyes mirroring a puzzled curiosity.

In reality, even though The Rex had lost to her in their previous rivalry and even missed out on the Canxing Nova Award, it was improbable for him to have plummeted to the extent of leaving the electronic music scene to work as a package courier. After all, he was still considered one of China's prominent domestic producers, with a dedicated fanbase and supporters.

Cheng Xiaofan, who was once the lead vocalist for The Rex, was still thriving in his career.

So, what had happened to The Rex?

It's no wonder that Miaoyi had occasionally wondered why she hadn't come across any updates about The Rex in the past few months. Since the Canxing Nova Awards ceremony, he had seemingly vanished from the entertainment industry, leaving no trace.

Now, in the lobby of the Yuwei Hotel, he stood before her as a delivery guy, dressed in a work uniform...

"Why I'm delivering packages isn't something I'll discuss." The Rex didn't seem to possess the confidence to meet Miaoyi's gaze. With some difficulty, he managed a weak smile that came across as rather uneasy, as if he wished to leave as swiftly as possible. He added, "Are you here to mock me? To laugh at how the mighty "King of Electronic Music" has fallen to such a lowly job?"

"Why would I be mocking you?" Upon hearing his words, Miaoyi momentarily felt perplexed. She couldn't quite fathom The Rex's thought process and responded, "Although I'm surprised to see you in this role, I have no intention of mocking you. Besides, isn't this our first in-person encounter as peers? Given the circumstances, there is no reason for ridicule."

There was something Miaoyi refrained from articulating: Did the current version of The Rex even merit her mockery?

She was no longer the same Tang Miaoyi from the past. Many of the issues that used to weigh on her were simply no longer relevant. However, if she voiced this sentiment, she would undoubtedly be offending him. Miaoyi wasn't so naive as to not know which words to speak and which ones to withhold.

Nonetheless, as she observed him now, The Rex seemed to have undergone significant changes. Although this was her first meeting with him, his current demeanour was completely different from what his online persona portrayed.

She could think of two possible options. Maybe "The Rex" was his persona, and didn't represent his true character, or perhaps... his arrogance had truly waned. In the present moment, The Rex appeared rather modest and reserved, though it was too early in their conversation to make any final judgements.

"You've managed to surprise me a bit. You're a worthy opponent," The Rex remarked, relieved that the anticipated taunting from his old rival hadn't materialized. After a moment of silence, he let out a sigh and continued, "Actually, I've been listening to your music for a while now... I must admit, you're an excellent producer."

As he spoke, Miaoyi could sense that the conversation was proceeding quite normally. It seemed that The Rex had indeed undergone significant changes.

However, the next words that escaped The Rex's lips nearly caused Miaoyi to blurt out some profanity in shock.

Directly lifting his head, The Rex locked his gaze onto Miaoyi's. He spoke, "I owe you an apology. I've been thinking about it for a long time. It was indeed my fault. I want to apologize to you in person now. I'm sorry!"

Before Miaoyi could react, The Rex went on to bow deeply, his gesture brimming with sincerity.

"You, you, you, you..." Miaoyi was utterly dumbfounded.

Was this guy out of his mind? Did his stint as a delivery guy drain his common sense?

Miaoyi felt confident in decerning genuine apologies from fake ones, and she sensed that The Rex truly meant it; this wasn't a façade.

The unfolding scene had drawn the curiosity of many in the hotel lobby, who were now keen on witnessing this unexpected encounter.

"Is it that you won't even accept my apology now?" The Rex disregarded the onlookers, straightened up, and questioned.

"No, it's just a bit unexpected. I accept your apology," Miaoyi responded after recovering from her initial shock, opting not to reject his sincere overture.

In hindsight, there hadn't been a deeply rooted animosity between them from the start. At most, their rivalry had been between two peers. Although intense, the true origins of their tension were often external to their own relationship.

"Are you here in the capital for the Ultra Music Festival?" The Rex inquired.

"Yes." Miaoyi nodded. It wasn't exactly a secret: "I'm part of the opening lineup, performing on the main stage for the first half of the second day."

Ultra... main stage... opening lineup...

There was a time when The Rex had yearned for such an opportunity.

"In that case, I'll take my leave first. I'm sure you need time to prepare, and I still have work to attend to. Please sign your name on the delivery receipt as soon as possible," The Rex's face displayed a faint shade of embarrassment. He pulled out the delivery receipt, signalling his desire to fulfill his task quickly and avoid overstaying his welcome.

"Sure." Miaoyi naturally complied, taking the pen and promptly signing her name on the waybill. "By the way, do you intend to continue your career in the electronic music industry? There's a saying that I think applies here: Make music with your heart, not your head."

"I've heard those words quite a bit lately. No need for you to reiterate them. Just remember that although I'm not the old King, it doesn't mean I'm giving up." After packing up, The Rex turned without looking back, making his way toward the hotel's exit. "Farewell!"

"Remember to give me a five-star rating in the end. I'm just five stars away from a bonus."

Miaoyi: "..."

Encountering a familiar face in such an unexpected manner was truly something.

"Yiaoying, how would you describe this new version of The Rex?" Miaoyi didn't immediately call for hotel staff to assist with their luggage. She stood still for a moment, lost in thought, before directing the question to Qiuying.

Qiuying, who had been silent all this while, finally spoke up, sharing her perspective, "He's genuinely changed. The way he carries out his package deliveries now feels more akin to that of a true musician."

"We might cross paths again in the future. I believe he's putting something together already..."
