Chapter 22: Uncomfortable Answers

They were in Marian’s rooftop garden again. The broken plinths and statues had been removed, but there was still plenty more that could be damaged.

“Why are we here?” Harley asked.

“You have a lot of nervous tension. I thought it might be helpful if you had somewhere to work it out.”

Harley’s eyes were sharp, and she picked up the blanket over in the corner, along with the pillows. She smirked. “Hoping things go the same way they did last time?”

“Can you blame me?” Marian asked. “That was quite the enjoyable result.”

Harley nodded. “Four times,” she said. “Fine. But take off the necklace.”

Marian smiled, removing the diamond meteor hammer pendant and the attached chord that formed her necklace, leaving both her neck and back bare in the cool air. “Already insisting that I strip? Very well, amore. But when I put you down, I’ll want your jacket.”

She settled into a combat stance, then drove forward at Harley with a series of jabs and kicks.
